So when i was seven, way back when the country had some pride in the national soccer team I flew Dublin to London on an Air Lingus flight with my mother. This was my first time in a plane, an incredible experience and naturally one of my earliest memories. As the plane taxied to the runway, the air hostess brought me over a present... being the eager kid that I was I unwrapped the present to discover a small Lego airplane. Thrilled, I spent the entire flight happy and delighted as I enjoyed the flight and played with my new toy...

wow, aren't planes great. Aren't Air Lingus fantastic for going out of their way to accomodate a first time flier. amazing.

then... 17 years later... my kind mother decided to tell me that what had actually transpired that day was that SHE had bought and wrapped the lego plane and had given it to the air hostess to give to me to distract me from being nervous about flying!!! Air lingus are a fraud!!! my mother is a fraud!! my faith in corporations... all lies!! i dont know what to believe anymore... :(

It's a tough thing to deal with - what a nice illusion to have for all those years though.:)

Just be grateful it wasn’t Ryanair you flew with at the time, cos even though your mother bought the lego plane, they'd probably have a surcharge for the airhostess giving it to you!

    Your mother isn't a fraud - she's fantastic. Lucky you :)

When I was about 7 or 8, being the criminal mastermind that I was, I opened a banana with a single slit and removed the contents, replacing them, deviously, with a spoon. I sellotaped up the creation and left it at the top of the banana pile, knowing my father was in the habit of bringing a banana to work with him.

As far as I was concerned until last Saturday, what transpired afterwards was that my father brought the "banana" to work and was shocked and amused to find a teaspoon in place of yellow mush. THIS WAS NOT THE CASE . Inspired by a friend sowing the seeds of doubt a few weeks back, I enquired about what *actually* happened on that fateful day when my father was here to visit last week...

Turns out he was never fooled, and brought the banana to work knowingly, merely to appease my infantile scheming... This isn't over.

(edit; Wait... Why didn't we post these under "lies our parents told us?")
