Didn't really know whether to put this in sci-fi or literature so here's as good a place as any.

Must go watch 2001: A Space Odyssey again.

    ditto.

Q a rush to produce his books as films now (i know theres one or two in development)

great loss. the mysterious worlds series got me hooked on horizon and equinox et al.

freakly enough i was watching him on an old show about zero point energy on the net last night.

he will be missed. still 90! great age

hard to know what to think, he was undoubtedly a genius but some would say he was a pervy paedo as well. If the latter is true then he deserves to be dead imo.

    its in his wiki
On 26 May 2000 he was made a Knight Bachelor for his Services to Literature at a ceremony in Colombo. The investiture of the award had been delayed, at Clarke's request, since 1998 because of an accusation, by the British tabloid The Sunday Mirror, of paedophilia, which was, however, found to be baseless by Sri Lankan police and retracted by the paper soon after.[14][15][16][17][18] The award of knight bachelor carries the title of "Sir" and no post-nominal letters[19] meaning that the previous postfix of "CBE" stood.

It was the Sunday Mirror that accused him of it.

The Sentinel was a great short story. That was the one they somewhat based 2001 on, wasn't it?

I was saddened to hear this last night, but he has lived quite a long life and accomplished so much.

He was always very imaginative and creative, and came up with so many ideas that were ahead of his time.

I look forward to new books of short stories being released in the coming months.

To the tabloid mentality, any single European guy in a tropical country is accused of being a "sex tourist" of some sort. Never mind that Clarke had moved there in the 1950s, after he discovered SCUBA diving. Later, when recovering from polio and suffering from post-polio syndrome, why would he want to leave? He had difficulty walking, but no problem diving, and in Sri Lanka he could do that all year round. In a cold country like Britain, without the exercise, he would have died years ago (in my opinion).
