one i did recently , i'm very new to this so all constructive comments welcome.

One thing I wasnt happy about was the cropping but it was necessary as the source was slightly crooked also to me i think it looks obvious i shopped out a label form the base of the glass holder, but maybe thats just because
i knew it was there. source was a color shot.

I like this a lot for various reasons. It's not perfect, but it's something that you could consider going back and shooting again.

I think you could shoot it from slightly lower again - there's still a downward angle that I find slightly distracting - I seem to be saying this a lot lately for some reason so I apologise for that repetition.

I wouldn't notice the label shopping so much I must say. What I'm a bit more concerned about is the proportion of the crop. I'm not against cropping at all, but I would have chosen a slightly different AR. My mind is suggesting square but for that I'd need to have seen the glass pushed back a little. Maybe consider lopping off a little on the right. The background is a little offputting though...

The post processing is lovely in my opinion. I like the bnw conversion and I really like the flame.

Well done and thank you for sharing it with us.

Thanks for the comments, as i said im just getting started, but you are right its definately something i can shoot again and is the reason i chose some thing like this as i can go back and reshoot easially enough.

What you said about the ar stuck with me it's a little clostraphobic maybe too as in might have looked better had i not been so tight to the subjet.

Good job, reminds me of those Glade candle ads (lights candle in black and white room which fills with colour) :) Do give it another go too and keep posting.

Nice shot like the colored flame, might look better against a black background.

I was thinking white myself but that would have made it a totally different photograph to what the OP did first off....

The original shot seems to have been taken in a window during the day (I could be wrong) thought the black background might give the candle more of a reason to be lit and show off the glass better. Current background doesn't do anything for the main subject,me thinks:)

If it was the daylight that made the difference you could get a office/desk lamp with a daylight fluorescent bulb, there's a couple of old threads here on making a light box, good for when your stuck indoors

I'm not one to comment, most of my shots aren't up to much but

shoot from further back and maybe let the candle burn longer, more melted wax
