I went to the Bohs match last week and brought my 400D along with the 50mm 1.4.
Obviously the pictures never came out as I had no external flash but the floodlights had the pitch totally lit up, I take it there is no substitute for natrual light?
Also I need a lens with some zoom, not cheap or top end budget somewhere in the middle, the sigma 28-200 I have is rubbish, lots of times it won't take a picture, granted I'm a complete noob/newb but...........
    ta for any help.

With floodlights, you need an f/2.8 lens, and probably ISO 1600 (or higher) to get any decent action shots.

You'll also need at least a 200mm lens to get anything from the stands, I'd say.

I've never shot there, but that's what I would expect.

Dalyer is like all other eLoI grounds, it's very dark.
The best you can do, is to get this lens.
It's a little cheaper than the IS version.

You were wasting your time with a 50mm, unless it was crowd shots you were after.

Ta for replies, I had to edit my post as I er messed it up somewhat.
That lens def out of my price range but interesting to read about it, Paul you can get very close to the pitch at Dalyer.

Paulw can get on the pitch at Dalyer, but I think I'll break him in with a visit to Richer.

I have the sigma 28-200 and I like it a lot :) It's not for all situations though, for example, you won't have any luck using it at a floodlit football game because it requires a lot of light to operate at its longest focal length. That's why it wasn't taking the picture, there wasn't enough light and the camera was saying, "yo buddy, gimme a break... I'm not a miracle worker here..."
