Probably a stupid question, tried googling it but to no avail

What is max wattage permissable per 13amp socket? I'm talking about lighting being used here (stage lighting)

about 2.8-2.9 kW (assuming it's mains voltage)
    (Wattage = Voltage * Current)

For lights it's simple enough: power = current x voltage. Other loads like motors lead to more complicated calculations involving the power factor.

For 230 Vrms system, it's 13 x 230 = 2.99 kW. To make things easier on your fuses, reduce to 2.5 kW.

Ah....thought it was much lower than that. Yes its mains voltage

I know the wattage of the lights, presume all I have to do to find my total wattage is add all the wattages up?

thats right all ya have to do is all the watts together and ya'll get the total power

If you're going to push things to the limit, make sure all the wiring is capable of carrying 13 amps. Consider also the temperatures those lights reach. Much safer to fit 5 amp fuses in those plugtops and limit lighting to 1 Kw per plug.
