Chargeback against me on PayPal

I sold a gig ticket at face value on eBay last month, and now PayPal have contacted me saying that the (Dublin) buyer has asked their CC company for a chargeback.

I sent the ticket through standard mail, no tracking.

Has anyone here experience in resolving this kind of thing through the PayPal resolution center?

Since it was sent standard mail there is no cover for you and Paypal will find in the buyer's favor. Did the buyer contact you at all before this to say it hadn't arrived?

No, I've sent them a message asking what happened.

I also today got a message from another eBayer saying the same thing has happened to them with this buyer.

Sounds like he's a bit of a con man, buying things that ship by standard mail so he can claim back. Lesson to be learned, always use registered mail, and charge the buyer accordingly for it. Safer for everyone that way.

Agree with the above , make sure you leave some very negative feedback and inform Ebay of the occurance

If this buyer was an Irish buyer and you still have his details, you could take him to small claims court. It might be a hassle and take a while but if you're determined to get your money back, this would be the way to go.

Small claims cannot be used unless dealing with a business. This is an individual claiming non receipt in a private transaction. Without proof of delivery, there's not a lot the seller can do. If you have his address, call around and tell him to stop maybe? Any kind of threatening behavior though could lead to even more trouble for you.

Unfortunately, this doesn't sound too good for you.

Whether the buyer is trying to scam you or not is irrelevant.

Hmm, looks like I might just have to accept liability on this one. €29, could have been worse I guess. Cheap enough lesson.

Maybe I should have known better from the username "catchya-2007". It was a foreign sounding name with a Dublin address. It all seemed okay too, they seemed grateful and asked if I knew anyone who was selling any more tickets, I even left them positive feedback last month. :( Still no reply to my message now. Ah well.

    Thanks for the advice.
