Embassy Suites on Delaware Place is fab. A bit pricy but right beside the Hancock Tower, a step off Magnificent Mile.

    Define decent?

Anyway, I stayed in Inn of Chicago about 15 months ago, which was decent enough for me.

Halfway between the Loop and Water Tower

I was in chicago for the first week in november for 5 days. We rented this place privately from the owner through this website. Was a lovely place in a nice building. It was a little bit off the loop with LaSalle subway station about 5 mins walk and the nearest El train station about the same distance BUT the building has a shuttle bus every 15 minutes all around the loop which ran every day except sunday. Cost us $350 for 4 nights...

we stayed in the congress plaza hotel last summer. its very central, right opposite grant park and it has alot of bus routes run just infront.
its showing its age a bit but it does the job.

oh and if your planning on shopping dont shop on the magnificent mile everything is more expensive than the other main shopping street Michigan Ave.

Michigan Ave = the magnificent mile.

IMO the best shopping in Chicago is the Aurora Premium Outlets or down around State Street, and I've been on 3 shopping trips to Chicago.

We also stayed in a place that we rented, a lovely appt, it was great. There's lots around the web with a quick search.

    Whats your budget OP?

I stayed at The Seneca last year Here is the link http://www.senecahotel.com/

Its a block from Michican Avenue. Its a bit old fashioned but I had a huge suite with a full kitchen. Very recommended
