Is anyone having trouble ejecting the 500 Gb Aldi drive. I get a message that it cannot be stopped, as it is being used by some program?

Should be stopped before removing as far as i know, removing before stopping can corrupt data

if you cant stop , shut down pc,otherwise you may lose data, you cud try another usb port,or a shorter usb cable.

That is what i have been doing. after reboot the external disk stops when i click on the 'safely remove hardware' icon. There are no handles as unlocker would find them if there was.But rebooting it is a nuisance

System restore may be enabled on the external drive which will stop it being ejected.

Go to control panel, system, system properties, system restore, select the external drive and then settings and turn off restore on the external drive. this should then let you mount and eject the drive whenever you want.

Hi thanks for reply. I am using Vista and do not see my external drive in system properties. The two drives are the C which is monitored and the recovery partition on c which is not monitored.
