I was working on some keyword optimization "intelligence" tonight and I decided to compare my results with some lambda keywords such as "porn".

Here is what I found regarding the word "porn" :-)

First of all, the word "porn" is in constant search progression since 2004 (Where are we going lol).

    Anyway here is my discovery

General "porn" keyword trend evolution from Google

The word "porn" is searched mostly by Ireland based customers.
Ireland based customers have made more "porn" queries within Google than the Americans, over 50 times the Irish population.

Those trends are combined values from all Google servers in the world.
So it appears the Irish are the most active users regarding search of "porn" content on Google.

And now a drill down by Irish towns
Kildare appears to be the most active place in Ireland, very closely followed by Louth and Sligo.

This drill down per town is very interesting because it shows that mostly "country side" towns are motivated by this search of "porn" material. Dublin being the last one at the 8th position.

I am not a trend specialist but I found those results very amusing.
Also regarding the country side searches, I am not surprised since Ireland is starting to catch up on internet connections in the country side. Ireland is still far from a penetration point of view compared to many other countries in Europe, but it is slowly moving to the right direction .

And just to finish on another note, the word "Guiness" is searched more by Ireland based internet users as well :-)
The other countries following are pretty interesting as well.

Interesting considering the size of Ireland. Can you drill down further than subregions and is that a program you are using or is it part of google?

Interesting Ireland has vanished from the results now
Somebody must have a good friend at Google :-)

Results were combinations from the last 4 years so I do not see why it would have vanished like that

EDIT: Weird, if you actually pick the last years (2007, 2008) Ireland is first, 3rd in 2006 and non-existent in 2005-2004.
My search was about all years combined years since 2004, so there is no way Ireland would vanish from 3 years and not even appear in a 4 years report.

So interpretation attempt of those results seems to be a little bit fun :-)

I believe this has more to do with the recent development of the ISP industry in Ireland. Take UK, which comes 3rd after Ireland, smaller than the US as well, but for years British were stuck with expensive and low bandwidth.
Since the last 2-3 years this has really exploded in UK as well.

I also think that most Irish use google, and most americans use other search engines, MSN, AOL, Yahoo etc...

So its not really like with like.

    Interesting
I saw something on this on that show Web of Desire on RTE
It said also that we consumed more porn than any other country in the world.
It said Donegal was the most active.

Are these statistics per head or one for one
if its one to one that WOW is all I can say

Its odd that we have these statistics but yet only one (to the best of my knoweldge ) irish porn site
