Depends on the airline and what class of ticket it is.
    Check their website.

Myself and my girlfriend got the name on some tickets changed with Aer Lingus. Was no hassle but cost about €150 iirc.

It's going to vary from airline to airline, and from ticket to ticket. You're going to have to wait until they are open again to get confirmation

  • Well i rang the travell agent and unfortunatly i cant change the name on the ticket so im basically out of pocket of 1300 euro. But i guess thats life.

My brother said something about claiming back the tax on the ticket????

Any ideas on how that works,,

Contact the travel agent, and they may be able to refund you/direct you in the right way to apply for a refund of the taxes/charges

What travel agent did you go to? We booked our flights to NZ with Austravel. On our travel documents there's details on flight refunds. I think it's somethng like if you cancel 50 days before you travel you get 75% of the flight back, if you cancel 25 days before you travel you get %50 of the cost back. If it's 10 days or less before you travel you get nada.

Do you have anything like this? Maybe check your travel itinerary/contract thing.

There should be some sort of refund on your tickets. Very few air fares to Australia would have 100% cancellation fees. If it is non-refundable the taxes are still fully refundable and the agent whom you bought the ticket from will be able to process the refund for you, although it might take a few weeks. Taxes on tickets to Australia can range from EUR200 to EUR400 depending on the airline and route.

  • Im going to ring then about tha tax refund and hopefullt they will give me back something.

I booked with austrailian hillidays and they have all that stuff about fefunds but said that because i bought a low cost flight that i was not due any refund. And that was the first i heard of it, and they didint have it written down that you cant change name on ticket but im sure its in tiny writting somewhere in their policy.

They should have it come up in big writting as a warning before you buy the ticket ha ha

Theres basically no such thing as name changes on tickets. Because an actual paper or e-ticket would have been issued for this trip, these are not allowed to have name changes on them. All paper and e-tickets have the words non-transferable on them which means no changing names.

The likes of Ryanair and Aer Lingus allow changes for a fee because they do not issue tickets of any type now.

Even if the fare is non-refundable the tax is definitely refundable in full, although the agent may charge a fee.
