I've been eyeing these for a while on ebay hoplite. What is the noise pollution like off them at both lowest and maximum fan settings? Do you notice any extra 'bulk' because of the fan?

That said, I reckon I'm going to give these a bit of a try since the ESS ICE 2.4 glasses I got have a bit too much of a gap (for my face at least) which is a shame because they are rather nice.

The noise on the low setting is barely noticeable so much so I occasionally toggle the goggles to high (the next setting) to check if they are on.

If you have the fan on high then it is noticeable but you rarely need to use the high setting and I reckon if it was not for the rain i would have been on low all day. I only used the high setting for a few minutes now and then.

Operating the switch is very easy. The powerpod is not bulky or heavy. The fan does not increase the size of the goggles noticeably compared to the regular profile goggles. They are comfortable to wear.

Those advancer goggles also look very good I was thinking of getting them as well but I've shelled enough out on eye protection for the moment.

I can give you a try of my Wiley-X goggles which are practicaly the same as the advancer ones. They fog worse then full goggles TBH. I have regular ESS Profiles and the turbofan ones look almost identical which is cool.

Chopper J has a custom made face mask with fans which is cool. I have a paitnball mask with a double glazed thermal lens. That combined with cat crap and they didnt fog at all on Monday despite lots of heat and sweat.

Do the wiley-x have a similar mechanism for airflow? or just the same general style/shape of goggle?

Now that I look the Wiley-X's don't have the vent system.

Still ... decisions decisions. I must admit to liking the turbofan's when I first saw them. I looked at the advancers because of a) no battery requirements and b) lower profile so less competing with my M1 helmet (when I wear it) for room on my face. Wouldn't mind giving the turbofans (or profile) goggles with the M1 helmet just to get a feel for them.

The problem I found with my current goggles (Bolle knock-offs) was that if yuo were running, the helmet and goggles would contact a lot and the goggles would get pushed down a little - not the end of the world but annoying nonetheless.

You can borrow my profiles no problem. Clear lens is scratched to **** by accident but have a dark/smoke one as well.

For that kinda money it might be worth your while to make your own. Chopper J, has his got a fan on either side of the chin and wrapped in black electrical tape?

And all fine and well if you have either a full face mask or a large pair of goggles (e.g. paintball mask). Which means no sighting down the barrel or using a scope.

TBH, for that kind of money ... it's my eyes. I have one pair and I cannot change them. Whatever else I may buy, the one thing I really, really do not have a problem spending money on is eye protection. I do not want something that's going to encumber me or worse; fall apart on me at the most inopportune moment.

Yep I agree with Lemming safety and quality are the primary reasons I went with ESS goggles.

The turbofan range are at the high end of the models available pricewise. The advancer goggles are a reasonable price for what you get.

Good eye protection is worth the investment.

Bringing an old post back to life with a slightly different angle.

Has anyone found a good pair of glasses or goggles that can be worn over normal glasses.

im currently using ESS Striker TurboFan over my glasses with no issues, i also have the inserts made up for the goggles as well , this work very well cost about 50euros to get the inserts made up at the opticians thought

I'm also using the ESS Profile Turbofans from MIA. I wear specs and have had various degrees of success with them.

The specs are very tight in the profiles - I realise they are not designed for over glasses but all I could get at the time.

I've used them (for the first time) at Gorse Hill, in the clouds, in the rain (as bad as it can get basically) and they worked fine for about an hour, after that, disaster. Switched to my mesh goggles over my specs - and they were just as bad, infact they were probably worse.
Conclusion: get new eyes or contacts in dire conditions.

Used them (second time) at GTAC (The Gathering), fogged pretty quickly but again - it's my glasses which are mostly fogging. very frustrating tho.
Thanks to CPB (Cormac), I tried cat-crap on the inside of the Profiles and for the latter of the evening - no problems whatsoever. Perhaps the cooler weather helped...

Used them (for the third time), the following day at GTAC. Just about to start and the fan stopped working, mmmm, strange.... switched on/off and worked ok for about 1 min, but then off again.
Mad rush back to the car to find a replacment AA battery. Changed (in a few seconds) and back in action... phew.

Never a problem for the rest of the day (well, up to 3 pm when I retired).

Overall conclusion; ESS Profiles are very expensive (€165) - no matter what way you look at it. I've heard all the arguments for value on your eyes etc. but goggles which cost 1/10th can provide just as much ballistic protection, unless you plan getting shot with real steel in which case; ESS win.
The goggles come with a speed sleeve (not so speedy due to tightness) and an extra smoked lens (very nice and very easy to change quickly).

The fan-assist is the business and if I wasnt wearing glasses I'd say they were 9.5/10 sofar. Wearing specs - and in the worst crap conditions - I'd give them 6 or 7/10. Not bad but considering how much they cost - I'd have hoped they would have been more like 9/10.

I am now looking at getting contacts; which I'd hope to avoid.$$
My advice - if you are in da money, get them - they are the business. Anyone who has had goggles fog in the middle of a skirmish will know how utterly frustrating it can be. Consider the cost divided over a years skirmishing and they dont really cost that much...

Also consider contacts instead of glasses. I've not tried the prescription inserts but essentially I'd imaging they would fog the same as glasses...?

    Overall mark, considering all... 8/10.:)

Thanks for the feedback Aidan gives a bit of balance to my gushing review.

Mine are still going strong touch wood.

You probably already know that perscription lens frame inserts are available from ESS for $30?

    http://www.esseyepro.com/Profile---ICE-Rx-Lens-Inserts_12_detail.html

Might be an expensive way to go by the time you get an optometrist to fit lenses etc.

edit doh! just realised Puding referenced the inserts as well, he's the man to ask about em so.

Saw the ESS inserts through a couple of sites ok, tried to buy but was told they could not ship outside the USA due to restrictions placed on them by ESS.

    They have it sewn up...

Will try that link and see what happens...

    Thanks Rob;):D

That link was to the main ess website I'm afraid. Maybe PM Puding to see how he managed to get his.

Also I bought my goggles from the uk distributer of ESS before MIA had them in stock. Otherwise Derek would have had another 165 yoyos from me :)

Anyway the distributer in the UK is.

Very friendly to deal with. The inserts are not on the website but it might be worth giving them a call.

Sorry to drag up such an old thread but was thinking of getting these.

Was just wondering do ppl who have them rate them as good value overall? Have the fans failed at any point? Are they still going strong after 2 years??

I seem to buy loads of different eye wear, currently use mesh but a completely fog free goggles that would last would be worth the money.

MIne are still 100% but I only really use them when wearing MICH these days - not very often. I also wore them much more before I discovered contact lenses.
Now I just wear mesh goggles or shooting glasses.

Beware if/when buying a secondhand pair - the was a flood of copies came onto the market about a year ago and the look almost identical - different lens sizes and wiring etc. I'm sure they are perfectly fine but becareful you dont pay over the odds, thinking you are buying the real deal. (The knock-off's were about 30 or 40 dollars and opposed to €160 or so for the real ones.
