I'm looking at picking up a gun safe for myself and the old man.
I'm pretty happy with this one from duffys,
    http://www.shoot.ie/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=2_36&products_id=69
But i'm a little concern with the shipping cost (big and heavy equals cost :D)

    So two questions are;
What would shippingfrom galway to dublin cost, and
Can anybody reccomend a similar safe closer to dublin

Mellor not sure what the cost of shipping would be i know the lads send all their gear by courrier, so it might be worth just giving them a ring and see do they have any arrangements for sending larger goods..

Came by this site just by chance, they are in the dublin area http://www.pce.ie/Storage-Cabinets/Gun-Cabinets.htm ..Not sure what they are like or what they prices are, but the safe looks pretty good..

I have that safe, its the one for rifles with scopes and its the business alright. Just get bigger bolts to fix it with 8 or 10mm. cost €230 from Urlingford dealers but i don't know about shipping costs. My son has one with the two keys but the one your looking at has the big bolts and only one key to lock it. The Infac safe is better.

Make sure its deep enough to hold rifle and scope. Even if you don't have a rifle the extra room is handy for a shotguns. Infac are a good brand.

As others have already said, Infac are a good brand, so I'd have no qualms on the quality of the item.
Something to bear in mind though is the total number of guns you intend putting in it.
Most safes I've looked at will more realistically hold around half to two thirds the number they claim to. They will hold the number claimed (to do otherwise would be false advertising), but you may have to wedge the guns into it with a high likelihood of damage to wood and steel finishes.
I'd strongly suggest getting a safe bigger than you currently (or in the reasonably foreseeable future) need. ie. if you want it to hold four long guns, get a safe rated for six.

Give Duffys a shout on the shipping, they probably have an arrangement with some of the courier companies, and the cost mightn't be as much as you might fear.

It says it will hold four, at the moment, there will be two going in it. So i'm happy enough with that. I imagine that i'll get a rifle in a few years, but i might have moved out by then, so another 4 gun safe will do. Glad to hear infac are decent.
    I'll update on duffys price.

You can buy these safes in Courtlough in North county Dublin. Put "Courtlough" into a search engine and you should be able to get contact info.

Not sure of the price, but seen them in there gun room.

Tallaght Rod & Gun also sell them

When you purchase the safe keep the receipt - handy when applying for additional guns.

I bought the very same safe from Duffys about a month ago, he charged €10 shipping from Galway to Wicklow.

Was in Courtlough yesterday at a 100 bird and they have them for €199.

on another note, i have the same safe and the cpo reccomended that when i fit it ,its best to secure it in a left hand corner of an alcove, as it
makes it really difficult to get behind it with a crowbar, due to the rounded edges..icon12.gif
