My wife's pc is still on 98. She's going to it upgrade shortly but meanwhile I need some anti-virus software as her Avg 7.5 licence runs out today. I've already upgraded to Avg 8 but that doesnt work on 98. Anyway can someone recommend a free - or even a free trial firewall to tie her over before we do this upgrade.
    Thanks for any help.

On July 11th, 2006, Microsoft stopped supporting Windows 98, Windows 98 SE, and Windows ME. No, really. No more security updates, no more technical support, nothing. You are now, officially, on your own. :D

Does the cheesy grin mean your a linux man ;)

Yeah I keep nagging her(makes a change from the usual order of things :p) to wipe her pc and install XP but anyway I'd imagine there must still be some firewall that works with 98.

Sure if you have BB, won't there be some kind of firewall built-in to the router? Try Zonealarm (prior 5.5) or Jetico personal firewall

Software firewalls are useful because they can notify you about outgoing data before it gets sent, which router based firewalls cannot.
