Actually QD are probably your cheapest option.

The other insurance companies in the market here are:

    Aon
    Carol Nash
    Adelaide

The car license has no bearing - you have a provisional license, 0 NCB, and you're under 23 - that combined with a 250 sports bike doesn't bode well!

I wouldn't think you'll get anything cheaper than your QD quote, although AON give % off if you've got a car insurance policy I think.

I was 22 last year with 4 years no claims and a full licence and a grade 2 assesment and my insurance was 1,909 TPO!! from Aon on a 250cc. This year i'm on a Honda VFR 800 and being charged only 540 euro Fully comp with NCB protection with Q.D!

In saying that i'm going to move to Adaleide next year if their not too much more. However, I think they only accept over 25's.

I have one years no claims when I had a bike (Aprillia RS 50)when i was 18 so I taught itd be cheaper - checked it out for a yamaha wr 400 a 400cc dirt bike and its only 700 euro,
Had my heart set on a racing bike but I would like to still keep the car
I taught Hibernian did aswell but cant find and bike insurance on thier website

NCB on bikes evaporates after 2 years, not 5 like with cars. Hibernian bailed out of bike insurance a while back.

If I were an insurance company I wouldn't quote any 23yo on a provisional license for a sports two stroke 250cc. You would find that the insurance group for this bike is the same class as most 750cc+ sports bikes. Do what the rest of us have done, start off on something sensible and then get a full license.

No offence but thats loser talk, how'd do you know Im not twice the rider you are. Iv driven and raced fast bikes before, 2000 euro is a disgrace considering the cost of bike accidents are far less then cars. Just because your old doesnt make you a better rider, Infact your reaction times are probaly half mine comparable to a drunk with the ego of one aswell.

....but judging by your rather hasty response and talk of racing you'd probably need your rection times to be twice as fast as you'd be going twice as fast too. :D

at the end of the day, insurance on bikes sucks until you get older, at least over 25 mainly because the highest risk group are younger men, as usual. Insurance companies are slime but they operate on risk and the higher the risk group the higher the premiums.

You will have to start on something more lame and build up a NCB and get yourself a full licence before you will get decent quotes.

You were disqualified from holding a licence so. You only hold 1 driving licence, with various categories on it, A, B, C etc. You don't hold an A licence AND a B licence etc... It's just one licence with however many categories you are entitled to drive on it. If you get banned it applies to the licence as a whole, not to the category of vehicle you were guilty of the offence in/on.

You will be asked to declare "have you ever been disqualified from holding a driving licence?" in your insurance proposal and you will have to answer "yes" and it will make a difference to your premium, as it should in a fair world.

What was your ban for? Do you not have to resit your test following your ban?

You're saying you have biking experience and you describe it as JUST drink driving!!!

Please don't buy a bike - you'll only injure yourself and put up our premiums.

And if you're determined to kill yourself, buy a bike for track racing only -cheaper tax-wise, no road insurance necessary.

Its down to insurance statistics and dosn't matter if you are the best pilot in the world. Experience comes with age, for starters I dont race around like a lunatic to impress people. I am riding 27 years having dispatch bike experience in Dublin city for many years. I have owned and ridden GSZR 1100's, Fireblades, Ducati 900 and currently have a GSXR 750 and never in my life made a claim against my bike insurance. The type of bike you are talking is a death trap and is no different to being on a pushbike doing over the ton, thats why it is classed in par with a 750+ sports bike and should rightly be.

I had to re-read that several times to make sure I got it right:
You're 23 on a provisional licence and banned and you're complaining about paying 2000?

You certainly don't sound like the sort of risk an insurance company would like to have on its books. Irrespective of what the ban was for it wont bode well when looking for a quote and when they ask the question "have you had any accidents, claims or convictions" I would be expecting to see a premium commensurate with your driving history.

I think you need to get a grip on reality

If I were an insurance company I wouldn't quote any 23yo on a provisional license for a sports two stroke 250cc.

    He didn't say two-stroke. If he did, it'd be a lot more than 2k for insurance. My 1989 RGV250 is group 11 - that's superbike insurance territory.........more than my R1150RT and 1450 H-D............combined.

Oh, love the OP's 'only drink driving' quote.........!

    Ode To The Motorist

“And my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, generates funds to the exchequer. You don't want to acknowledge that as truth because, deep down in places you don't talk about at the Green Party, you want me on that road, you need me on that road. We use words like freedom, enjoyment, sport and community. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent instilling those values in our families and loved ones. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the tax revenue and the very freedom to spend it that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a bus pass and get the ********* ********* off the road”

I went from Carole Nash to Quinn-Direct last year but this year I think I'll go with Adelaide. Rang them to get a quote the other day and fully comp. (including free recovery!) was much cheaper than QD!

It was only a quote though... When I renew in June I'll know for sure which one is best/cheapest.

This might have been mentioned, but Aon do discount if you have a full B licence and a validly insured car. Now that might mean being with AXA, but I think not.
