    Hi there,

I am traveling from Cherbourg-Octeville to Copenhagen by car-
Has anybody done this route or a similar route through France or across France into Belgium, Germany and into Denmark.

Is there anything i need to bring or any advice you can lend me??
Also what the situation is with tolls and costs?

    Any replies appreciated-

    Cheers!!

I know you specifically mentioned Cherbourg but have you considered heading across England and taking the Dover/Calais route. I'd imagine it would be cheaper and faster.

I have ferries already paid for Rosslare to Cherbourg!
Do you think it would have been cheaper to go Dover - Calais?
    Dublin- Holyhead then Dover-Calais?

Irish Ferries new ship the Oscar Wilde will be our ship to France-Anybody been aboard>??

    Uhm,
regarding the tolls, have you factored in the €35 toll for crossing the Store
    Baelts bridge in Denmark?
Also depending what time of year you are travelling be wary of the storms.
Denmark has had a lot of high wind storms recently and the two big bridges you have to cross to get to Copenhagen have been shut to traffic as a result.

It's a while since I did either trip but the Landbridge via England was cheaper and quicker than direct to France (Cork-Roscoff). France has a lot of tolls and petrol is/was dearer than the UK. I'd usually use the landbridge if travelling east of France and direct ferry if heading down south or west.

I wasn't aware of the €35 fee for the bridge however i have budgeted for tolls for the trip and ferry between Germany and Denmark.

I figured it will be an expensive holiday anyway so i will just be careful and try to plan for every eventuality. Are police usually suspicious of foreign cars? Do they usually go out of their way to stop foreign cars looking for papers etc?

Probably too detailed for you but this site gives you the price by town :

    http://www.prix-carburants.gouv.fr/

Calais = (on average) €1.25/L diesel and €1.38/L for unleaded.
