primary HD failure, quick question

    Hi all,

The master HD on my four year old PC failed on Friday. I installed a new HD and did a clean XP install. After about 5 hours downloading updates, all seems well.

The problem is that the PC also has a slave HD (which is still intact) containing my music, videos, photos and a whole lot of other stuff that I want to keep. The primary HD was only 20GB and had the OS and system files only. Everything else is on the slave HD which is 200GB and was mostly full.

When I installed the new (master) HD I disconnected the slave HD power and data cables and the PC's been running on the new primary HD only, the slave is still disconnected.

My question is this: can I just reconnect the slave HD and will XP recognise it with all the files intact, or will I have to reformat it (and therefore lose everything) for Windows to recognise it on the new install. Of course, I could just plug it back in and see what happens but I thought I'd ask first!

    Any help much appreciated!
