The SB Post has printed one of my pictures on p4 of today's newspaper. It's this picture of Poolbeg, and I presume they downloaded it from flickr - as I haven't posted it anywhere else and the printed version is a bit soft, presumably because the flickr image is only 800px wide.

I'm understandably chuffed that the newspaper considers my image worth using, but also a not a little miffed that they have effectively stolen my image as it was posted with "All rights reserved" and they made no effort to contact (or indeed pay) me and also no effort to attribute me. If I hadn't bought their newspaper, I wouldn't know they had used it.

I'll try to contact the newspaper this week and see what can be done, but does anyone reading/posting here know anyone in an editorial role in the paper or have any advice on what I should do?

Nice one! Shame on you SB Post editors!

Meant to say, took a look at the Post. The pic looks well.

This is happening a lot in the English tabloids lately. What most people seem to be doing is sending an invoice to the paper. Some scottish guy's even sueing the Sun(I think) over it.It's unusual that a respectable paper would steal a photo off Flickr,it's usually only the tabloids.Send an invoice anyway, they have no right to steal and publish your photo.

    http://www.londonfreelance.org/feesguide/photo.html

Have a look there to see how much to charge them for use of your photo.

Make sure it is your photo beforehand though ;)

I'd make sure I was 100% sure, because the poolbeg towers ae quite common, and cetain vantage points might also be, and a similar lens etc.
I it is your bill them, chances are it was takenfrom net by a junior staff member and editor didnt know it was "stolen"

Also attach a copy of the printed page to support your invoice.
