A real set box that drives a TV is much better picture.

You need to have USB 2.0

Search the trhreads here and use Google. While online purchase may be cheaper, buying it in a local Maplin or other shop may mean you can bring it back if it does not work with your laptop. If it is for a PC, a PCI card is a much better buy.

You need a separate external aerial. Unless you have a very good signal the included mini-whip is useless.

where are you located Bassy? - someone may be able to advise you about expected signal strength etc for your area. What is your analogue reception from there like?

you would likely need a new aerial too, as the digital is in a different UHF group to the UHF analogue from there too.

as Watty indicated, it is extremely unlikely that the stick's own aerial would work

heres a picture of my aerial that i,m using to pick up perfect analogue recepton of tv3 and tg4 from mt.leinster, but rte1 and rte 2 are snowy with that aerial this would be because i need a vhf aerial for perfect reception of both rte1 and rte2.

second picture is of my frequencey details of the tuned channels.

The DTT pilot is broadcasting from Three Rock and Clermont Carn. Don't think you'll get it in Kilkenny.

I have a cheap "Durabrand" set top box that picks up Mount Leinster digital. My dad brought it over from the UK. Picture is good quality but channels are listed in alphabetical order and the box has no facility to re-arrange them. No problems otherwise.

I also have a USB stick that I bought from eBay. It cost £6.49 plus £5.99 p&p from UK. Works fine. Just search eBay for "freeview usb".

You have a UHF grid aerial which may not be suitable for digital. You may have to replace with a high gain "Yagi" aerial. (Link: http://www.ukfree.tv/fullstory.php?storyid=1107051054)

That is true. But the 4 terrestrials are broadcasting from Mount Leinster.

Maybe you are using a red marked group A aerial.

Its not the aerial, i have a strong signal on ch 45 with the sagem. I also have one of the maplin mico boxes which picks up both ch 39 & 45 and my pc only picks up ch45.
