Comedian Des Bishop has set up a free an interactive multimedia Irish course/tests on his website at this link. It's very user-friendly and worth checking out. You can only use it as a guest at the moment though. The register facility is not working yet.

I tried using it yesterday but it wasn't recording? My microphone was plugged in an worked fine.

Also, just to avoid cluttering the place up with threads. I found a very good website with Gaeilge lessons, broke down into 128 individual lessons. I found them a practical way of breaking back into Gaeilge.

    Link here: http://www.inac.org/irishlanguage/?page_id=irishlanguage

Also, on top of that - I uploaded a Liam Ó Maonlaí gaeilge audio course that I got free in the newspaper last year from foras na gaeilge to an audio server. I'm not sure about copyright infringement, so I don't want to post it just incase. It was free in the newspaper, so if I have the go ahead - I'll post it.

I tried it myself earlier today, it works OK but only as guest, some of the phrases are spoken by Des himself (he has even left in the "fluffs",I don't feel so bad about my pronounciations ;)), it is still work in progress.

Hrm, I'll try it again then when I get home from work. Maybe it's fixed now.

I did the same last year without any problems http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showpost.php?p=52909225&postcount=4 it's the two CD course released about March.
Not sure if the links still work as I havn't used that site for a while.

The link there doesn't work anymore. Oh well, I'll repost then. If theres any problems with it, a mod can just delete it but I think it should be ok as it was given away free.

I was having similar problems today, I've found that sometimes saying a nonsense word first - pause for one second then speak, seems to overcome the delay in picking up your voice.

Hi. Thanks for the feedback on the site. My company block5design built this Irish course for Colaiste Lurgan's students, but it was decided to make it available to the public through Des Bishops site.
Registration is implemented, but only for students of the college at the moment. We are working on a more streamlined reg process for the general public, but we need to ensure at all times that fee paying students of the Colaiste are always at an advantage (which is only fair!)
With regards to the recording exercises, any problems are purely network based. If the connection between your machine and the server has high latency or a bandwidth bottleneck, then their may be problems. I tried to come up with a compromise between quality of recording and size of file. The internet connection in my office is quiet fast, so its difficult for me to judge.
It would be of great benefit to me if people could post/pm any problems/bugs in the application, and i'll do my best to sort them out.

I've only really sampled it myself, but it seems very well put together. Well done. :)

Most of the credit has to go to Micheál O' Foighil (the fella who is painting the college with Des in episode 1 of the program), for the incredible quantity of content he provided. If there were more people like him, then nobody on this island would be speaking english!!
