Women and kickboxing

Inductive reasoning I know but is there any particular reason so many women seem to do kickboxing? Around 95% of the women I know who do a martial art do kickboxing. Even for just general sport, most of the women I know have kickboxing as their sport.

Just wondering if anyone here knows if there's any reason for this or if I'm just imagening things. My boxing club has no girls, havn't seen any girls at the college judo club yet, Aikido has 2 girls and all the rest boys etc etc.

Boxing is much rougher than Kickboxing, thats why.
judo has lots of girls in it in my experience, and kenpo and that type of ma are packed with young girls..

the reason why so many women do kickboxing to kip fit and shape up is because of celebrity women. they all rant and rave on the t.v about their personal kickboxing coach. And when the average girl sees their results they take up the sport !
Monkey see monkey do type of thing !

    WRONG.

loads of the PT trainers do boxing with them and it does not send women running to boxing clubs!
Its more got to do with the competitive nature of the sport, thats why not many women do MMA and Boxing or even Muay thai, Kickboxing is less intense competitively and most women like this.

In my experience both the last two poster speak an element of truth.

When I was kickboxing, and coaching most girls came because they thought Kickboxing was like this 'Tai Bo' rubbish and never realised that there was a competitive element to it.

They thought they'd prance around like Jade Goodie in pink gloves and looking 'well ard!.

Some of course went on to compete, and made fine fighters too.

I think Judo attracts a different type of female, a tougher and more determined fighter and because you have to fight for your belts after your green there's a hugely competitive element to Judo.

Either way females in Martial Arts are a sight to behold. Where as most lads, esp. the heavier weights will use brute force and ignorance in a fight - the girls don't have that so you see pure, raw technical Martial Arts and its fantastic IMO.

Well lads, speaking from a female point of view the reason Kickboxing is very popular with women is the simple fact that it is much more "out there" than other martial arts especially since classes are available in most fitness gyms.

As a girl just starting out learning MMA it was hard to find a good gym with a timetable to suit my needs, whereas I could find a dozen kickboxing classes.

Sometimes for women and for men it just comes down to what is available when you choose your sport.

I did it as it was the only martial art that was of any cop in the college.
The girly girls were found out very soon enough and did't come back.

Well, dunno about that, i like to think of myself as a "girly girl" and have been enjoying learning MMA loads, even us "girly girls" enjoy a good grapple from time to time :)

I had to fight for all my belts. Starting at yellow and I think it was a good idea tbh. How it was done was a lil bit ridiculous (fighting instructors, obviously semi contact but still putting a nine year old girl against a 25 year old man is ridiculous no matter what) but it kept us all working hard! I actually found kickboxing quiet rough. Maybe that's just me though. Really enjoyed Kung Fu! ;)
