this might be in the wrong place, mods can move or delete if inapropriate.

Ok a friend of mine is a flooring contractor he's just started his business and things were going ok for him, then he gets a big job laying a floor for a fairly well to do bloke and all is good, but before he can finish the job he gets sick rings the guy to tell him he wont be there on the friday to finish up, but will be there monday morning the guy says thats no problem.

so monday comes around friend shows up to finish job and guy is not there. he rings him ,no answer leaves a message guy dosent get back to him.
rings on tuesday guy picks up says he got some one else to finish the job and that theres a problem with the floor and he's not paying even though the problem is not anything to do with the work my friend had carried out.

so where does he stand from a legal point, this job has put him in a bit of financial difficulty and he cant afford to walk away.

sorry for the long post but i wanted to get all the details in.
any advice would be greatly apppreciated.
