Lens Meet?

Was thinking to myself, why the hell can't I sleep in! Would love to be lazy & stay in bed on the weekends. Anyway, that got me thinking of things to do & I thought, wouldn't it be fun to have a "Lens Meet"?

Basically, everyone attending the meet, uses a similar lens.
So many people on her have a "Nifty Fifty", that could be a good place to start.
I don't think we should concern ourselves with the aperture just yet.

I know plenty people who could get their hands on a 70-200mm, so that could be another option.

Might have to leave the 300mm meet for a while yet though. ;)

I can't sleep in because my flatmates wake me at 5am on their way to work.

I like this idea. But I don't have a nifty fifty or a 70-200mm so I guess the 10-20 day is the one for me.

Good idea. Another day could be spent using a lens that you have never used before. A kind of a swapa day. That's the only way I can think of getting the use of a 300 2.8. Even then I wouldn;t bet on it. I'm not sure anyone would trust me enough

Good idea, I'm sure some of us can do a 300mm meet ;)

    We should do a 200 f 1.8 L meet.

Lens swapping could be good alright.

I'm all for more meetups in Cork. If we can get numbers, I'll gladly organise any meetups.

I'm gonna be in Cork next weekend.

but I'm trying to organise surfing lessons so anything I do will be around said surfing lessons.

While it may have been suggested with your tongue pressed firmly against your cheek, I actually think it's a great idea.
If anyone has a Fisheye lens they'd be willing to share, I'll gladly bring my 300mm f/2.8

Do you think getting one planned for next week in the Cork area is too soon to organise? I'll be covering the Munster game on Saturday so I'll be in the area.

Put it in April, and you can play with my fisheye

    Can't help but snigger

I'm up for this. The fifty is probably the logical place to start - and those who don't have one can have their kit lens taped at the 50mm position though :p

Fajitas, if you get a TS then I get dibs on that for the swap!

Is Cork a workable option? When are we thinking? Could we combine this with the strobist type thing?

    wasn't just me then...

Could make it an all dayer event and have the strobist in the evening time. Since the last meet was around Dublin bring the next one down south to Cork.

I'm glad someone thought it was funny...

I reckon I'll hold off on the TS for another bit. That fashion shoot is postponed for another bit. I'm gonna pick up some lights in the US in the mean time :D

Cork is indeed a workable option. As long as we head out on the lash that night.

Sounds like a great idea, count me in. Cork isn't a problem for me as long as I get enough notice (Need to find a dog sitter).

We will also need a few Nikon users.

Can't understand people who can't sleep in!!

Could be interested in this depending what's proposed for the day. Was going to suggest including a City game, but that being on a Friday would rule that out obviously.

The battle of the Citys is on Good Friday, which means no pub afterwards.
Can't see anyone signing up for that. :)

I'm trying to imagine a football match being shot by an army of niftyfiftywielders and

    it's just not happening, sorry.

We'd need to have a decent amount of Nikonians and Canonians for each one.

Between Darren and Pete, there's the whole catalogue of nikon lenses I'd say...

True, but it would suit the army of 70-200 f2.8er's just fine! Am working that day anyways, plus we have our own home game that night.

I think they suggested Cork as the venue, so that you couldn't make it! :p
People are so PC these days, trying to be all inclusive & catering for minority groups.

If Nikonites are to be invited, I suggest we seek an EU grant for inter-brand relations.

I found one for you.. But she's in Cork.

Shall we try and get a lens swap/strobist meetup underway for next weekend so? Almost everyone is equally invited, but some are more equal than others. Oriel, if you're going to make the trip I need a few days notice to get the red carpet cleaned.

Good to have you back in circulation mate ... We'd missed that razor sharp wit

Sounds like an interesting plan ... I may be interested ... is it Cork or Dublin or both ???

How about late April in Fota Island Park and Arboretum?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,657 ✭✭✭trishw78

how about a one lens only day and that way we could swap different lens.

It could also push you to seeing what you could shoot with that limitation. I'd also be interested in a strobist meet.

I have done this quite a bit and it works really well when you are confined to one lens or focal length, I have a fair amount of gear and just waiting on a Lastolite Hilite to go with the D-Lites so I could organise something with these if people were interested..:)
