If it's a TM, which I presume it is, you will need to get better, metal gears and a 1J spring

    Easy to find on Ehobby

280 is perfectly usable in any site, but to get the most out of it,( or any AEG) its best to do some upgrades for power and ROF,.

i have a p90 and no you dont need any upgrades for HRTA ,they have a good rate pf fire and decent range,

the only upgrade id recommend is a 1 joule spring

ya have to strip the gun to fit the spring, might aswell get some other upgrades while you doing if if your gonna go with the spring job.,

If you are getting a P90tr you might just as well plonk in an M4 tightbore inner barrel and cover it using the Silencer. longer inner barrel means longer range and better accuracy the tight bore also seems to add a few extra fps too.
You could always wait a bit longer to see the release dates on the classic army P90 and P90 sportline as these will shoot about the joule mark already or at least no lower than 310 fps.

you dont need to change the gears or anything else, a 1 Joule spring is all you need, even at 280 it's still fairly good, but with a 1 Joule spring your range will improve a good bit. I currently run mine with a 1 Joule spring, metal bushings and a 9.6v battery which is decent enough, but just changing the spring will greatly improve it, if your not comfortable opening gearboxes yourself, some companies such as redwolfairsoft.com do upgrade packages, i got mine from them with the spring and 9.6v battery modification (you have to trim inside the stock to fit a larger battery

Any guides to fitting a 1J spring KD? I'll probably get one for mine at some stage

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,414 ✭✭✭kdouglas

the p90 is fairly easy to disassemble to be honest

    open the butt plate
take the two screws out and remove the plastic cover
    slide the gearbox out
remove screws holding trigger mechanism in place
remove screws holding motor cage and remove the motor
remove slide from top of the gearbox and remaining screw(s)

at that point the two halves of the gearbox can be taken apart, just watch out for parts flying out :)
if it's the first time you've opened a gearbox it may be worth opening it inside a clear plastic bag to catch any stray parts

Thanks for that KD :) It'll be my first time so I'll tread carefully!

the tight bore also seems to add a few extra fps too.

I thought tight barrels reduced fps slightly, due to the vacume effect?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,261 ✭✭✭Puding

no they should increase fps by about 15 -20 fps

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 985 ✭✭✭Mark_Sc

If they're really long you can get the vaccume effect but there's less air escaping between the walls of the barrel and the bb so it tends to add to FPS

I was thinkin of getn one at some point for me sg1 (its not very acurate for a god damn sniper/assault rifle  ) but its fireing between 323 and 327fps. Would it push it over the Joule mark do ya think? Or would it be ok as its long?

I'd say it'd be fine, if not drop it significantly

    Might drop a bit.

I think I'm going to have a bit of trouble with a psg1 barreled rpk and my planned rof upgrades :(

your type of piston and gear ratio can all effect weather you get the vacum effect, i did read a good forum post on it i will have to drag it up again

Vented piston head helps, but its likely it will have an effect all the same.

Is the reflex sight that comes with the P90 any good at all?

Normally they are not that high, all depends on the barrel really. I've had FPS drops due to barrels, but most fps increases are +/- 10fps

No you won't. On my RPK I run a 650mm barrel with full cylinder and I'm fine.

I'm also running about 30rps with no problems.

If you could explain the theory behind that - It could help.

Gear ratio will have NO affect at all, how can it? It has nothing to do with the air seal on an AEG. Cylinder/Cylinder Head/ Piston Head/ Piston (Shouldn't really)/Hop-up.

    Do they have sling attachments?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,641 ✭✭✭zero19

Yeah at the butt, you need a proper P90 sling though, mine loops through a slot in the back then clips on to the muzzle, real nice though mine is a bit high on my chest.

You can also get stargate style ones that look awful...

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,542 ✭✭✭kinkstr

    One of these?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,641 ✭✭✭zero19

Similar to that yep, that ones not too bad looking though. Of course looks don't matter either once it works

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,542 ✭✭✭kinkstr

Looks fairly good, where did you get yours?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,641 ✭✭✭zero19

UNcompany, SWAT brand, cheap and cheerful lol

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,414 ✭✭✭kdouglas

I tried the stargate style sling, it was a better one than that one linked above, it was a proper chest harness, i found it awkward to use to be honest, especially with a vest, i now use a single point sling which I loop into the sling point on the butt when using a vest, if im not using a vest i also have the bungee style sling and find that works very well too.

Ive got one of those bungee single point slings with a clamp, that cant go on to a p90 as it is can it? I may find some pics of the back of a p90 so i can see that the sling attachment looks like.
On a side note, is the reddot sight detachable?

The piece in the middle of the picture below is what you put through the sling point at the back, it just goes through and wraps back on itself
