The ISPCA is warning members of the public not to approach a large cat like animal which is believed to be roaming in Donegal.

ISPCA CEO Mark Beasley says the animal which may be a wild cat mauled a flock of sheep in the Manorcunningham area recently.

It's hoped that the result of laboratory tests on droppings found close to the dead livestock will determine the identity of the animal.

Deerhunter, a mate of mines claimed he had seen the "beastie" a while back, roaming around the burt area, he was quite adamant cos he had a good view of it-seems his story is good now.

just a question but do panthers not just kill for food i.e only one until it needs to eat again, instead of mauling a flock it sounds more like alsations if it goes for more than one, they just keep chasing them until the get a few

They do kill just for food. Not only that it is a neck bite that is used, and they usually drag the kill up a tree.Anyone doing an autopsy on the carcasses should notice two huge holes in the neck made by the upper fangs. If they arent there it isnt a feline kill.

"They say it's as big as four cats, and it's got a retractable leg so that it can leap up at you better. And do you know what Ted, it lights up at night, and em, it's got four ears, two of them are for listening and the other two are kind of back up ears... and it's claws are as big as cups and for some reason it's got a tremendous fear of stamps and Mrs. Doyle was telling me it has a magnets on it's tail so if you are made out of metal it can attach onto you and instead of a mouth it has four arses."

where would you stand legally if you hunted a big cat like that with a pack of hounds?

These big cats enjoy no protection under the wildlife acts as far as I know but your pack might be reduced to bite size chunks. Unless you have a pack of ridgebacks trained to hunt big cats that is.

And even then a Big cat will rip big dogs to flitters.
Proably a pack of 10 plus terriers would be better.Smaller, more agile, more courageous to the point of sucidial ,harder for the cat to target, will dart in and target the hamstrings, and generally exhaust the cat, before the hunter or the bigger dogs get in.Expect to lose dogs if you hunt dangerous game.Wild boar are terrors for ripping up dogs,so think what a cat will do.
