My mate said to me down the pub the "Tubridy" was going to get the late late show gig in a couple of years time and whilst i agree, I bloody hate the thought.
It's bad enough now with kenny, but with ya man........good god.......

Is there another option for RTE? Who would you like to see as the next presenter of the LLS?

btw- they dont have to work in rte at the mo,they can be from any part of the media.

bet ya it'll be that one off prime time or seoige because they'll think they're being really edgy by having a woman on the telly on friday night. If they put tubridy on I'm emigrating. That would be the last stray.I can handle the health scandals, the corrupt politicians, but Tubridy just sucks any will to live right out of me.

Jeez the LLS is really awful, Pat Kenny should stick to radio, he's so awkward, and tries so hard to be cool and hip...ugh

Yeah because what this board needed was a 3rd thread about the frickin late late show. Who gives a crap?

I remember watching an interview with Conan O'Brien, where he said that whe would love to retire in Ireland and present Late Late.

    He was probably messing though.

I think it's inevitable that Tubridy will take over from Plank, like it was inevitable that Plank would take over from Gaybo...

I'd hedge bets on Seoige getting a Saturday night chat show

Eh Conon O'Brien could do the entertainment side of it alright, but I doubt he could do any of the topical subjects that are a regular of the Late Late show.

Also all those late night interviews are scripted beyond belief on those shows in the US. I know Pat Kennys questions are scripted but I dont believe the guests answers are scripted, otherwise Pat wouldn't look so awarkard all the time as he would know what the guest is gonna say.

conan o'brien is getting the tonight show next year as leno is leaving!

the problem is can you really have a show that goes from light entertainment to serious stuff anymore, the show is too long they should split it up into two, interview with serious issues and a sperate entertainment show with dara o'brien hosting...

it not the host that's broke its the late late format

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 9,082 ✭✭✭lostexpectation

Conon O'Brien could do serious interviews if he wanted to, he's extremely inteligent and political, but also very silly, he's job requires him to steer clear of politic and serious subjects.

I'd prefer G Ryan to get it rather than Tubridy and that's saying something.

Ryan is about the only other one I could think of that has been sufficiently groomed by the Montrose mafia...

My head is spinning at the very notion.

    Moncrieff

Now there's a good idea, but he walks too near the edge for that lot in D4:(

    Plus he's a prat:rolleyes:, I'd say Mark little might have a chance.

Dara O Briain took the soup a long time ago!

But seriously, why would he do the LL when he has a much better gig at the BBC?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,538 ✭✭✭niceirishfella

    Moncrieff

    Excellent notion -

    and he'd be good too!

I dont think that he would like it, he's a comedian, he's born to make people laugh. I couldnt see him interviewing say for example Ian Paisley or David Blain.

I can't think of anyone more suited to the job that Tubsie.
I know that dosen't say much about Irish presenters,
I really don't think it would suit old Gerry Ryan.

Well I thought both Tennant and eccleston did an excellent job but my money is on Blaithnaid. I mean, she's always knocking around the canteen after hours, seeing if she can muck in in anyway, so yes, let's see this irrepressible 'character' take charge of the TARDIS and here's to another 44 years of chat, song, dalek attacks and the sound of easy laughter going forward.

I'd bet my life they won't consult anyone, and will just play it safe and go with Tubsie. :(

I'm a fan of both Moncrief and Dara, but neither would suit the job IMO.

If there were a vote, Grainne Seoige would get mine.
Definatly not that slobby dude that sits beside her, or either of those 2 manic yolks on the other afternoon thing.

Like Sharon Ni B, shes beautifull and professional, but she also has charisma and a sense of humour.

of course it would be worse.

The elderly would be up in arms over it.

Rte would get the stuffing knocked out of them.

Tubridy has his moments. I caught a bit of it before I went out on Saturday and he did a real good interview with Carol Vorderman. He is good at making celebs at ease but as far as the more serious aspects of the Late Late, I do not think he could carry it.

If Seoige 'the plank' got it the Late Late would have an even more 'wooden' presenter than Pat is!

But candidates should probably be Tubridy, D'arcy, O' Callaghan and maybe take a punt on Claire Ryan.

Would ye stop putting notions about O'Callaghan into the ether! We've only just got rid of him off the radio. I can't stick the guy.

    //Off topic
He had a rant at me on the radio once. It was John Lennon's anniversary and he only brought Imagine with him to the studio and he must have given it to his cat to play with because it was scratched. So I sent in a text saying "bloody typical, well done!". He went on a 5 minute rampage about how people are so bloody brave when they can anonymously text in and say what they want. IMO he was lucky I didn't deliver my message in person cause he would have got a slap for his troubles.

    //Back on topic
I haven't watched the Late Late since the plank took over, he sickens me. It's like he decides how he wants the interview to progress well in advance and if a guest goes off the path he freaks out. He's a brilliant researcher though, but realistically , that's where he should be, head of research or something because he's rubbish on the telly. I really don't think RTE has anyone even moderately good on their books that could do the job properly so I doubt I'll be tuning back in anytime soon.

Um, I was referring to Miriam O' Callaghan. She is the one who has the Summer Talkshow, I think! Whois this O Callaghan you are referring to?

There are many of them. Whoever is on Newstalk on a Saturday morning, I don't know her name, but I want to put my fist through the wall out of frustration listening to her!

Gareth O'Callaghan is terrible, he used to listen to Steve Wright on BBC Radio 1 and completely rob his material, fact.
