    From the Nationalist this week...

    http://www.carlow-nationalist.ie/news/story/?trs=mhmhqlqley
CARLOW WILL be awash with green, white and gold this weekend as eight parades are planned across the county.

Most take place on Monday, March 17, but there are some exceptions to the rule.

The folks in Killeshin will be celebrating their 24th parade on Saturday, March 15. Starting at 9.30am from the assembly point at the community hall, the parade will be led by the pipe band and school band for 10am Mass in Holy Cross Church. A huge crowd is expected to turn up to join in the celebrations with local primary students and their teachers providing the music during Mass.

Carlow town and the parish of Myshall and Drumphea will both be holding their parades on Sunday, March 16.

The Myshall and Drumphea parade will start at 11.45am and this year the organising committee have promised it will be as big and bold as ever with street entertainment. The whole community will be involved.

The Carlow Town parade kicks off on Sunday at 3pm. The decision to go a day earlier this year was taken with the hope of attracting visiting marching bands to the town. And the decision has been justified with no less than six marching bands scheduled to participate. The theme of this year’s parade is ‘Music, Dance, Community and the Arts in Carlow’. The emphasis will be on colour, costume and pageantry but business vehicles will not feature this year.

The parade assembly is at Carlow Town Bus Park at 2.30pm. The parade starts at 3pm and will be led by a colour party and the Reserve Defence Forces.

The route goes from Barrack St down Tullow St and Dublin St to the courthouse.

At 4pm the grand finale in the shape of a gala open-air concert is scheduled for the steps of Carlow Courthouse.

The remaining five parades will take place on Monday, March 17.

The first will be in Graignamanagh at noon. It will leave from the Borris Road and continue down Main Street. The reviewing stand will be at the Market House in the Town Square.

The next parade will be in Bagenalstown, starting at 1pm. Festival queen Andrea Lee and a mystery St Patrick will lead the troupes in a parade around the town. Organisers want to urge all shop-owners and publicans around the town make a special effort and fill the place with colour in honour of our patron saint.

Starting at 2pm sharp is the Tullow parade, which promises to be the biggest and best the town has seen.

The theme this year is ‘Ireland through the Years’, and once again the parade will be led by the Reserve Infantry Battalion Colour Party and the Fintan Lalor Pipe Band. There will be music on the review stand in The Square from

12.30pm to 2pm, and a supervised children’s disco takes place in Captain Murphy Memorial Hall from 3.15pm to 5pm.

Leighlinbridge will start its parade at 3pm sharp this year. It will leave from the Carlow Road, travel up the Main Street past the review stand at Meaney’s and up St Laserian’s Street. There will also be added attractions on the day for all the younger generation, including bouncing castle and face painting.

The final parade this year is in Ballon. Starting at 3.30pm, it will be led by the busy Killeshin Pipe Band.

This is the 22nd year of the Ballon St Patrick’s Day Parade and it will assemble at the Land League Gates and will pass a reviewing stand in the village before turning at Ballykealey Lane and returning through the village.

This year the organising committee welcomes back the Carlow Hunt for their first appearance in many years. There will be Irish music and dancing on the streets before and after the parade as well as on the reviewing stand.

Watched it from Shamrock Square, The first bit passed there at 3:00 and it finished at 3:25, so it was pretty small alright.

That looked brutal as usual. Keeping any companys etc out of it meant it was never gona last more than 15 mins!
Its only the businesses keep it ticking over.
Glad i went up to county grounds to watch the hurlers instead yesterday!
