job in Guards - how much notice?

    Guys, I am working in a company for a little over 2 years and have just been accepted for the guards and will be starting in May. I have not yet handed in my notice but I am unsure as to how much notice to give??

    I have NO contract and never had in here. I am paid fortnightly so that was the amount of notice I was thinking of giving. :confused: I have a holiday booked before I start new position. Do I HAVE to give 4 weeks or would 2 be sufficient?:(

    Unless otherwise stated in your contract ... which you dont have ... as far as Im aware it is sufficient to give as much notice as your paid by.
    Monthly pay - month, Weekly pay - 1 week etc

    if you have no contract then I don't think you are obliged to give any notice at all, in the same way as they could end your employment without any notice. Whatever you do give would be a courtesy.

    as you have been working there over 2 years you have to give 2 weeks notice. The fact you dont have a contract does not mean you dont have to give notice it means you have to give the statutory minimum.

    Only if you have been there for less then two years iirc, the minimum goes up the longer you're in one place (to lazy to pull up the list but as I recall it tops out at 5+ years).

    To Saint your pay days have nothing at all to do with your notice, you could be paid daily or yearly and it would still have nothing to do with your notice period.

    From my own research i agree with Beano...Congrats on getting into the guards, im going through the stages myself now and done research for when i get closer the time and i came up with the same link as Beano. Well done again :D
