Dual sim- is this feasible?

    Hi.
Can anyone recommend a really good dual sim holder- one that is guaranteed to work?

Now that Three are finally bringing out sim cards, i'm thinking of combining:
    1) a Threepay sim for data and RECEIVING calls and
    2) a Tesco sim for voice (making calls) (flat rate of 20c/min suits me OK for now).

AFAIK, the above combo is the best PAYG voice/data combo.
Or anyone know a better one?

So where can I get a good dualsim holder? :)

    Start googling 'dual sim adapter'.
Depending on what phone model you use, you may have to cut your two sims (the makers provide instructions and an easy to use cutter).
And read the specs: some types require the phone to be powered off and on to switch between networks, while otherst dont!

Also, be aware that most dual SIM adapters don't support USIMs/3G SIMs - just something to watch out for if you're using data.

most modern phones support 2 lines and there's no reason (afaik) that they need to be on the same network.

what you want/need is a "super sim" off ebay (or elsewhere).

you basically get a pack with a sim card reader and a "super sim" card that will support 12 to 16 sim profiles on one sim card with a combination of any two of these active at any one time. (CLICKY LINKY)

I actually got one of these for the g/f but never used it in the end. she had a work mobile and personal mobile phone but limited handbag space so I got it to combine thw two, but then she moved jobs before I got round to doing it so I never managed to get it working.

you basically make an image of your various SIM cards using the supplied software and a usb sim card reader that they supply (also handy for backing up your sim contacts etc.) and then use it to load all of those images onto the single "super sim" and stick that in your phone.

according to the blurb, it adds a sim menu (like the o2 or vodafone menu you get with them) to the phone for you to swap between sim profiles and set up to two profiles as active at the same time.

I should point out at this point that it's probably not something mobile phone companies would want you doing, but I don't see that they could stop you, and in the event that they did if it's just PAYG SIM's then you aren't really risking much anyway.

P.S. if it kills your SIM's and/or phone I'm not taking responsibility for it, I'm just suggesting a possible course of action. ;)

simore.ch do dual Sim adaptors for pretty much every phone out there.

But, most phones (except for the few like the Samsung above) have only one GSM/radio so only one Sim can be active at any time, although switching between is simple and it will be an option in the menus. Have a look at the videos on the websites.

It's useful if you have one number for work and one for personal use. I don't think there is any option yet for concurrent dual SIM use, I can't see why not except battery life would be effectively halved in standby.

    Hi Folks,

I was thinking of getting one so that I can get 02 unlimited texts as this is killing me every month. I was wondering if anyone here has used these dual sim adapters and if they could answer this question for me.

Lets say I have this adapter installed, it all works perfectly and I have it setup to automatically switch between the two sims every minute. Now if I am writing a txt while its on SIM one and then the minute mark is passed while Im writing the text will my phone still switch the the other SIM in the background? If it does then when is txt sent, is it from the SIM that I am on or from the SIM that I started writing the txt message?

Does anyone know of anywhere in Dublin that sells these?

I think my phone will need me to cut the sim cards and I dont have the tool for it, does anyone have one of these?

    Dave

Yeah I just remembered that actually.
So I suppose that's what i'm looking for really- one that does support it.
    Thanks. :)

It combines sim info from 2 sims on one sim card? WTF :)
    Sounds a bit far-fetched tbh :)
But as you say it's worth trying with 2 PAYG sims so i'll probably check it out at least.
    Thanks.

Sorry, wasn't being smart earlier. At the time I last researched this, I only fonud one which was on an asian ebay page, with "NOT GUARANTEED" plastered all over the images. I"ve converged my mobile/data since, so I didn't look in to it anymore. That link does seem a bit more reputable alright!

Everything looks great with that site but when it comes to payment i'm wondering how secure it is.
There doesn't seem to be any padlock icon/https etc when paying with CC/debit card etc.

Unless a site has SSL encryption (the padlock and 'https:' are indicators of same) you would be illadvised to submit your CC info as the details are not encrypted before they leave your browser and are therefore open to view during transport to the server. Also, given that a site doesn't have an SSL cert you would have to wonder about the security of the system used to store your CC information. A basic SSL Cert can be purchased for about €60 these days - should hardly break the bank of any reputable online business.

Does this do what it says on the tin so? Up to 16 sims on one card and you can use any 2 of the 16 at any time to make and receive calls? Would all contacts be stored on a "master" profile, or would each of the 16 sims have their own limited contact list? How many contacts I wonder?
