Non licence holder - Use and transport of firearm

I bought a .22 hornet CZ527 Last year with my father. We have only used it a handful of times in Sligo as we are not members of a club in Dublin yet. (both of us Dublin based). The rifle is stored in a safe in my fathers home.

I have seen the club list in a previous post, and am very appreciative!

My question is this: As I am not the licence holder, what do I have to do to legally transport and use the firearm without accompanying the licence holder?
    Is it possible?
Do I need a separate licence on the same firearm?

    Cheers

Section 2(3)(f) of the Firearms Act says that you don't need a license for:
    the carriage for sporting purposes only of a firearm or ammunition under instructions from and for the use of the holder of a firearm certificate for such firearm or ammunition;

Now if I was you and I was going to be using the rifle regularly I'd get a separate license for it simply to make things easier. For all I know, the above section has been overridden by some other law somewhere else. Also, if you were stopped by a Garda at any point it's much easier to just whip out a license rather than quote bits of the Firearms Act at them.

Edit: The above probably also only covers accompanied use.

Simple, apply for a liscense as well.Firearms can be multiple liscensed to different individuals here.

Conor and Grizzly nailed it - if you just want to use the firearm when you and your father both go to the range, that's permitted under the Act, and there are other circumstances in which you don't need to be the licence holder to use the firearm or to carry it, but they're not likely to be known to the average garda. A licence would be the solution with the most peace of mind for you.

I have licences for both my brothers guns, there's no hassle getting them.

Sparks, do any of those circustances apply outside the range, ie field shooting.

AFAIK in Midlands you have to be licenced for any firearm you want to use on the range unless you rent a club 22. Anyone confirm ?

It's a club rule. Might be tied to their authorisation, I'm not sure.

Cheers. Have an email for them?

I'm gonna go ahead and apply for a licence on our gun, but seeing as the original one took over 1 1/2yrs to get, I'm hoping this one will be a formality.

The Department of Justices Firearms legal section must be very busy with all these phone calls. Maybe we should suggest that they install a free phone number?

Hi cousin never seen you slip out of the end of the bed, was it the toed in the hole.

When you say maybe we should suggest that they install a free phone number.

You will have no problem getting that sorted out. I am sure you would be able to get your contact in there to fix it.
