If the job isn't what you want then it's clear but with what the handler has said its kinda confused things. Is there a way you can get confirmation directly from the employer about how the job will progress.

At the end of the day the handler just wants his commission and will do anything to get you in there. I think as long as you stay there a few weeks then they get their money and no refunds due. He doesn't care if the job doesnt turn out to be what he claimed it to be.

Recruitment agencies are the devil. Accursed HR departments why can't they pull the finger out and do some work .

not strictly true. you would have to stay there a few months for the recruiter to get paid. usually you have to stay a minimum of 3 months and if you left after that time the recruiter would either have to refund the fee or else find a suitable replacement. so for him to actually get paid you would really need to stay there 3+ months.

it could be that when they interviewed you they liked you but as you said you werent expereinced in one area. so maybe they intend to train you in that area and then let you take over the other position.

another reason could be the company trying to cut costs. they might have had 2 seperate positions and then decided instead of paying 2 employees to do the 2 positions, they could combine the positions and have one employee doing both. it wouldnt be that strange.

tbh the only way you are going to know the answer to this is to speak to the actual employer and not the recruiter. ask the recruiter to set up a meeting or phone call with the employer and then you can get all the answers you need. and that is the only way you will know if the recruiter is pulling a fast on or not. if the recuiter wont let you speak to the company directly then there is something strange going on.

    good luck

I would ask the "handler" for a direct contact within the company with whom you can discuss the position with.
