Would someboby be kind enough to point me in the right direction for the detail in fitting 4" ventilation ducts for room vents in a timber frame house.

I need to clarify, AFAIK I need to box the 4" duct with timber but I'm not sure.

    Any help greatly appreciated.

I do hope you were drunk when you made this post, it hardly represents the true spirit of boards does it? Especially so coming from a mod.

That post was indeed made when I was full of the true spirits of the Rosses bar.

Never knew that a mod wasnt allowed to take a drink on a Saturday night.

I would imagine that you would need to install them in such a way that you don't vent into the cavity.

I never said there was anything wrong with taking a drink, that's your own business. Modding while drunk is probably not the best idea though.

Without wanting to go into too much detail, it's precisely because I have two conflicting opinions from two different engineers that I asked the question. I was hoping someone could give me a difinitive answer as my trawls through the building regs have proved fruitless.

Thanks DB, that bit is clear and I know I need to install firestop around the vent duct as it passes through the cavity.

It's the timberframe portion of the wall structure that's the bogey. The question is whether I need to enclose the duct with a timber box or whether it's OK for the vent to just pass directly through the insulation?

I would say it's OK just to pass the vent pipe through, nothing structural there.

Pass a 100mm pipe from room to external making sure that cavity isn't vented.

Is there fire prevention needed when doing this in a timber frame?
Like a red fire bag stuffed around the hole before the 4" pipe is inserted.

Yes you need a firestop around the ducting as it passes through the cavity.
