    howdy

    jazzmaster fan here also!

those copies look good in as much as they have the
features that make a jazzmaster a jazzmaster!

to elaborate... they have that crucial lenght of string behind the bridge
and the trem looks like its relatively correct

this is what makes a jm sound like a jm

    pickups are a factor too,

understand that jazzmasters have quite a dark tone
and are not snappy like a tele or a strat bridge,
    but have their inherant tones
to example swervedriver as you have, (lifelong fan, have signed shirt!)
and to a much stronger degree, j mascis (dino jr)
MBV, costelloe, suede, babyshambles, its goes on

i have to abridge this as i will talk all night...

    to summise..

get a fender japanese jazzmaster from ishibashi (flawless quality)
budget for 200 dollars (good rates at the mo) for pups on top
read and learn about the tremelo and bridge issues at ....
    http://www.offsetguitars.com

that solved, you have a guitar that will thrill you at every turn
(but it is NOT or never will be a metal guitar)
it does exceptional tones in Jazz, blues, grunge, fuzz, shoegaze, etc etc)

it is a beautiful guitar and i have never regretted it for a second,
superb build, really stable tuning , dreamy tremelo, mojo, looks,
an it is the most comforatable guitar to play in the world
but you have to work on its quirks to settle it down

yeah, mate of mine has one with a dodgy bridge, so im aware of it. i like me bit of metal yeah, but i wouldnt write or record metal at all, i absolutely love the swervedriver sound. jazzmaster is unique alright, even looking at some live incubus, and it just sounds sweet. ill have to sell my LTD ESP then...no , ill keep that for the metal....

My two cents: regarding Incubus. I like their new stuff, just as I like nearly all of what they have done. Now whatever about the style shift over time I much prefer their older sound up to and including Morning view.
Okay the PRS - Mesa sound wouldn't suit the new album perhaps, but why when playing live does Mike insist on using the Jazzmaster for even the old songs. Sounds weak tbh.

I'd just use a beast of a humbucker loaded guitar with splitable coils and a line selector for different amps if needs be...........

on their latest one, he's using a gibson sg with P90s in it for most of the songs, and then the jazzmaster for one or two others.
I see your point on the PRS / mesa , but I do like the jazzmaster sound...

have Look Alive. Watched it drunk. May watch it again. Tis NTSC though so plays in black and white. Annoying. Unless it's meant to be in black and white!!
Sound on the Science track New Skin is my fave! Different strokes eh........
