Hi, I ride a Varedero 1000 and have done so for about 4 years now.In that time I have put up about 98,000 kms.I have had no trouble atall with it (except reg/rectifier) and love it. Recently I have started to get the "itch" for something new,I have had my eye on the new Tiger for a while now.Any one out there have one??? What do you think of it. I know that they (Triumph) had a bit of a bad name for a while regarding reliability etc.Any help / advice welcome.

don't have one, but I really like the look of the new one.

the 1050 engine is a blast too, I know someone with a Sprint.

    couldn't go far wrong.

I've been driving the older model Tiger for a few years and it's the best bike I've ever been on, great balance of power and agility. Not sure what you mean by the reliability problems, I've never heard that said of any of the latest generation Triumphs (the Tiger was my second Triumph bike and never experienced a problem with either). Anyhow, given the new Tiger is supposedly better than the old one, I can't imagine anyone being too disappointed with the bike and with the 1050 engine in it, it should fairly fly.

    Hi,
I've got a black 1050 with a Remus power cone, don't think there is another around like mine. It's a truly fantastic bike. I too had the old 955i and loved it. In fact, when I was trading up I really didn't want to part with the old Tiger. Up to that point it was the best bike I had ever owned.
The styling and soft ride of the 955i put some people off but driving from Dublin to Antibes with my mate on his TDM, I wouldn't have wanted anything else.
    Until now.
I got mine in April of '07 and I had it pre-ordered from Oct '06 so you can guess I was enthusiastic to say the least. It's totally different from the previous model.
I rode (nay, flew) to Paris last October and I loved every minute of it.
It handles, it stops, it looks fantastic, it's totally reliable, it's loud (with the Remus) and it's different.
I am a bit of a Triumph fan, I also ride a flat tracker Bonneville so I'm probably biased.. However, you just have to look at the reviews to see how good this bike really is. For me this bike ticks all the boxes.
Heading to Spain on it at the end of May. The very idea of it get's me through the days.

This is mine (without the topbox that it's currently wearing)

Carlos, is the seat much lower than the 955i? Looks a lot lower from that picture?

Hey I've had two triumphs. One a sprint st that i bought 2 years ago (1050cc) which uses the same engine as the tiger that you are talking about. Beatiful bike, great build quality but i wanted something sportier so i went for a daytona 675. Again beautiful bike, great build quality.. possibly better tahn the japs. I sold it fairly recently.
My biggest problem with buying triumph is the following... down south here, there is just the one triumph dealer and pretty much all and every other dealer aroudn do not like dealing with bikeworld. All too often i would go to a dealer who would say 'beautiful bike..i would love to be able to do business with you, but i cant beacuse biekworld own the triumph brand here'.
I would buy a triumph only if you really realyl love it and want it and do not care too much about depreciation if you get bit dealing with bikeworld.

    Hi Art,
Yep the seat is lower. It was one of my concerns when I was getting the bike as I am tall & not a fan of the new breed of "lower" ride height. It does however fit me like a glove.

    Hi Agent Smith,
I've gotta agree with you on these counts. I'm not going to slag off bikeworld as they may read this post and I get on pretty well with Neil up there. I've bought a few bikes off them over the years & I push very hard for a good deal (& generally get it).
However, I do not get my Triumph bits from them as they are, rather bizarrely, more expensive than any other Triumph dealer in Europe for accessories. So I generally go elsewhere for that.
They are aware of this as I have had numerous conversations with them about this subject so this won't be news to them. It would be easier for me to shop with them for bits but I choose to go elsewhere. I do get my servicing done there and fine them to be good.
Depreciation is a factor if you decide to switch brands and go to another dealer but for me I really love the Tiger and if I live long enough, I'll buy another when the time comes. Most likely from Bikeworld.

    Hi Varadero,
I hope that these posts help you in some way but you really need to have a spin on one before you make your mind up. Good Luck!
