    Hi!
Am planning to go on hols with a couple of friends this summer.
We are all 25 yr old females.

We want to get a sun holiday where we can gain that all important tan but get a bit bored of a holiday that consists soley of lying on a beach all day.... would be nice to go somewhere a bit different to the usual holiday we would go on... the algarve, spain etc

We are also looking for somewhere with a lively night life (not a mad clubbing destination like Ibiza but not somewhere that you are the only people in the bar past 10pm like Italy.... a kind of happy medium if ya catch my drift)

we were thinking of either croatia or egypt.... anyone got any suggestions or advice??

I went to Luxor, Egypt last year. I would not recommend it for a lively night life. I think there was about 2 bars near our hotel (one Irish, one English) and on the few nights we went, there was about 10people in them, max!
In saying that, I had a great holiday and am going back in two weeks :D (I'm a sun worshipper)

I'm just back from Egypt, we stayed in Sharm El Sheik (trip report to come) and also spent some time in Luxor and Cairo. Cairo, maybe, but the rest are places for couples and families and are definitely not "party group" welcoming or accomodating.

I'd agree with RB - most of Egypt is pretty quiet (especially outside of Sinai) at night, and as a group of girls, you'll certainly get a lot of, eh, attention, from the locals, most of which I'd suspect will be unwelcome.

The only place I'd recommend for a group of girls that wants decent, but not overpowering, nightlife is Dahab (about an hour north of Sharm). Lots of nice beachfront restaurants, very little hassle, great diving, decent nightlife (but still quiet enough to be friendly), and the other tourists seemed to be a fairly friendly, chilled bunch (I went for 3 days and stayed for 12.)

Croatia's probably more like what you're after. The islands are great craic (although maybe a bit too lively) and Dubrovnik is a staid but boring choice (very pretty though), probably more suitable for families.

Come to think of it, if I were going on holidays with a group of my friends, I can't think of many places I'd rather go than Dahab (or many places I'd rather not go in a group than the rest of Egypt...)

Just wondering about what you said there tea about dubrovnik being boring? i'v flights booked to dubrovnik for two weeks in june, i had the immpression there was a bit of nightlife there...
Which island would you reccomend that would be livelier?

OP, If you're going to Croatia I would avoid Dubrovnik and go to the islands instead. Hvar is a great spot - loads of restaurants & pubs as well as some night clubs. Very lively at night although it has a good mix of groups of young people & families so its not an Ibiza type atmosphere. There are lots of islands around it that you can go on excursions too. Hvar is about an hour on the ferry from Split.

Dubrovnik is not somewhere I would recommend for night-life. Went there in the summer of 2006, we stayed in a place just on outskirts of dubrovnik. We were actually the only people in the night-club most nights.

Having said that we were not there for the night-life and I absolutely loved croatia - its so beautiful.

i went to Dubrovnik 2 years ago, a lovely historial town, during the day nice sights to visit, make sure you get a hotel with a pool as the only beach has pebbles not sand. Also night life isn't hectic, there are a few bars but we ended up mainly going back to the same too & the niteclub is dodgy but good if there are a few of you. I would more recommend it to families or older couples though rather then a group of 25 year olds

Zagreb is the place to go tbh. Spent a few weeks working in Cairo before, hated the bloody place. Its depressing. Zagreb though was cool. Although I'd say why limit yourself to these two places. I've recently been in Budapest on a work trip and its party capital. Never saw anything like it.

If you want a mix of beach and culture, Croatia is great. Beautiful, friendly, great food... I went to Pula with 3 other girls of similiar age to yourselves and we loved it! It had a couple of late night clubs but they were only really busy on Friday and Saturday nights as tey were really more full of locals than tourists. They were all mad friendly and good craic though. I'd go back in a flash. Pula is close enough to Zagreb that you could go to both spots too, or there are ferries to Venice so you could pop over there for a few nights?

Trogir and Split are a little more lively in Croatia

I would recommend you Opatija and Zrce Beach in Novalja (Island of Pag) also known as the best party beach, or Makarska.

    @others
(thank you for all positive comments about spending holidays in Croatia:))

Yeah there is great nightlife in Split and Hvar

I'd be worried about a group of young wans going to Egypt as I've heard stories about them, could have been on here actually

    +1.

Croatia, particularly the islands are perfect for group of girls. Great atmosphere, beaches, culture, fun nights out, good looking men etc etc..

Admittedly, I actually haven't been to Egypt but I would say Croatia would suit you much better. And if you go to Hvar, make sure to bring heels and glam as they get very dressed up there!
