for all you music photographers , what aperature do you usually go for at concerts , one or 2 stops down from wide open ??
    Thinking of using my sigma 30 , F 1.4 , and using at F 1.8 , lighting will be poor !

Depends on the venue. Sometimes I have to go wide open at 1600, but in general with the 1.4 I try to keep it at 1.8 - 2 and a lower iso. And underexpose!

1.4s not all that bad on the Canon one though.

Cheers Sinead , thats what i'm planning

Still not too happy with the 1.4 quality , i could be selling it soon !

Go 1.8-2.8 and manually set the shutter speed.

I had that lens on a Canon 350d and it was very dodgy but when I stuck it on the Canon 20d it was fantastic.. I would stop it down a bit in use but if I had to I would use it wide open..

something a bit different -- getting into my Spiritual side for Paddy's weekend -- still coming to terms with the sigma 30

Yes. With the D300, no problem. :)
Baz, learn to use your camera on manual setting. You might make a few mistakes, but learn to "feel" for what the best shot is. It's like learning to drive in an automatic car, then moving to a manual. In time, you just know.

the above were shot on manual -- still learning and coming to terms with the sigma 30 , probably keep it attached for awhile longer , and try and master it properly !!

The 20D is great isn't it BoarderFox? I use the canon 1.8 with it and never really have to go over 800. I wouldn't anyway, always shoot RAW too, can be handy for gigs to shoot RAW. Doin a gig in the ******* tonight, haven't shot one in ages so can't wait. They have fantastic lights too.
