Car Insurance - Brain Surgery

    hi all,
    Brief Background:
I have a grade 2 astrocytoma, it went to a grade 3, tried surgery and radiotheraphy, was feeling fine last summer and the surgeon wanted to go in again for "awake" surgery. All went well and all biopsy tests came back as a grade 2, so wohoo for a change :) more info on the introduce yourself.

I was with the surgeon and he says that I'm fine for work and driving again, with my last seizure being over 16 months ago. Now I've heard conflicting views (from people) over the car insurance, while I was off driving I kept my policy renewed (not sure if that makes any difference, euro wise it wasnt that much), even though I wasn't driving.

So it's due for renewal in the next month so do I have to tell the insurance company ? and/or get something extra on my drivers license ? The doc says he'll sign me off to drive without any problem. So has anyone else done this before ?

    Thanks
    Muineach

Did you suspend your insurance?? You could have suspended it and gotten a refund on the months unused.

You just a letter from the doctor stating that you're fit to drive is all.

grand i was talking with a friend of my sister and she said all i need is the letter and it shouldnt affect my premium, I kept the insurance on in case my family needed to use it, they would have be 3rd party on it, it was more of a back up, plus I always intended to get back driving, something to aim for :)
    Thanks

I had an astrocytoma too, and I just had awful trouble getting travel insurance (I can't drive anyway)

Remember it shouldn't affect your premium! My own insurance crowd said it's just to make them aware of the situation etc.

Old thread but how does a craniotomy affect insurance... Is it 6 months off the road minimum or could the surgeon write a letter allowing you to drive sooner for less serious surgery? TIA
