First details and a CG teaser here:

Seems like they're addressing the major complaints about the original - chiefly, there will be 16 tracks (up from 8 in the original if i remember right), 4 player splitscreen, 16 player online, and lots of colour. It'll be out in Autumn apparently.
MotorStorm 2 will be a lot less brown than its predecessor, sprawling across a verdant tropical Pacific island setting far removed from the dusty bowl of Monument Valley. Alongside thick foliage, Sony promises a huge variety in environmental hazards, citing mountainous peaks, flowing rivers, volcanic clouds, lava and - yep - mud.

Don't like CG teasers much, but I'm glad to see the tropical setting.

Hopefully they might have a look at the difficulty levels too. Took me two days to win my first race!

In all honesty though, I remember the first Motorstorm video coming out before the PS3 launched. I didn't believe it would look that good but it wasn't far off.

I suppose MS2 could be closer to the CG than I expect too!

    4 player splitscreen

That's the winner. Someone needs to tell the Burnout guys they missed a trick with that one too. Social gaming!

That might be easier also because IMO at least, this CG isn't as impressive as the original's CG teaser. There isn't as much physics stuff going on in this one, and what is there looks more like realistic game-like physics than offline type physics like the stuff in the first Motorstorm's CG - like the really impressive fluid/mud physics, windscreen's shattering realistically etc.

The article mentions things like lava, rivers, swamps etc. but I think they were wise not to include them in the teaser - because perfect 'CG' simulations of those things might be too far out of reach of a realtime game, in the same way Motorstorm lacked the quality of mud and fluid dynamics etc. seen in its CG.
