Have tried minister@environ.ie and john.gormley@oireachtas.ie. No reply from either.

This reminds me of the time Brenda Power was trying to get hold of Minister Seán Haughey and they kept hanging up on her on national radio...

    Alternatives might be

    john.gormley@environ.ie
    minister.gormley@environ.ie

That's the usual naming system that govt depts use

Ok thanks, will hang on another while. It's been only 9 days.

Yeh I used minister@environ.ie, got a pretty detailed reply from Eddie Kiernan, Private Secretary, 22 days later. I was surprised because it looked like he actually took time to read my mail rather than just send off a standard template response.

In all fairness, you can imagine the amount of email a Government Minister receives on a daily basis - from legitimate communications like yours to nutjobs touting their latest home nuclear fusion invention - not to mention all the Viagra offers a publicly published email address must invite. I'd give it a while longer for him or his assistant to get through the inbox to your mail.

I sent him an e-mail some time ago, and like a previous poster said, I got a reply from his secretary, about a month and a half later. Don't hold your breath.

Ya hes far too honest for FF.

I remember emailing the former junior minister for transport, Ivor Calley, regarding his proposed bans on modifications to cars. Took about 3 weeks to get a reply and it was a standard bull**** template not answering any of my concerns.

I would be inclined to disagree.
Everyone knows that FF members are ardent followers and will do anything that helps the party.
John Gormley, as with that Trevor Sargent seem to have sold their principles just to get into governemnt. It is obvoius that JG made commitments with Bertie not to complain about certain things, e.g. Tara
Before the election, he and other GP members were quite vocal in expressing their view on the FF leader, etc. Now, they bury their head in the sand by saying that they want to wait for the tribunal to report!
    John cannot be trusted now!

O I never said he could be trusted, just that he was still too clean and honest for FF!

On topic again, do the ministers have to email back? Or can they choose to ignore you?

The ministers probably never see the emails as each TDs firstname.lastname email is redirected to their secretary. They have private ones.

To answer though, their office must email back yes. Within 40 days IIRC

Generally, yes their secretaries will lie to you on their behalf. Whoops Bertie's secretary must have forgot that bit.....

Seriously though, I doubt if Gormless John will answer anyone with the truth: "I am a naive prick and I spoke before consulting my bosses in ff."

Any response I got from Dempsey was a scanned in letter sent as a PDF attachment!!

I once had a conversation via email with Dick Roche at about 2am, mails pinging back and forth....

Call them and ask for if they recdeived your email. If not send again and ask that read receipt be sent or ring them after you send it and ask if they got it.

I have had replies from that address. Ask them also about he rules for replies. I think you are supposed to get an acknowledgement in 4 days and full reply in 16 days and interim reply if not possible in 16 days. May be wrong with the numbers of days

They may not have to reply but you can complain to the Ombudsman if they don't and if you are not satisfied witn the reply

You are rather sad are'nt you? Do you enjoy trolling motors? Well done old bean, carry on, I shant be taking the bait any longer. Go drive at 40kph and hold everyone up. Your rattled boy.

Back on topic: I'm sure Gormless has received countless emails regarding this, and much as I hate to stick up for the man it will take time to get a response. However, he should have given clear information BEFORE the budget as to his plans and allowed people and the motor industry the ability to be informed about this initiative before it was sprung with confusing results.

    The

"Mr. John Gormley, T.D., Minister for the Environment, Heritage and Local Government"

    bit reminds me of

LOL - a further letter stating that you will receive an email to confirm that you will get a personal phone call from the Minister's secretary who will ensure one of his officials will give you an official response by email in the format of an official Green Recommended Response Receipt (GRRR) provided you will need to confirm same in writing in advance no later than the 31st of December 2018.

I have recieved a reply! Alas not from John himself but a minion employed to shelter him from a disaffected public. My email was sent 27/02/2008 urging him not to do a u turn on the proposed new road tax system with regard to imported cars and explaining that all cars post 2001 have valid COCs stating their emissions (as if he didn't know!) The following was my reply:

I have been asked by Mr. John Gormley, T.D., Minister for the
Environment, Heritage and Local Government to refer to your recent email
    in connection with motor tax.

The Motor Vehicle (Duties and Licences) Bill 2008 which gives effect to
the new CO2 based motor tax system passed its final stage on the 20th
March 2008 and amendments have been made to the Bill to include in the
new tax system new cars registered from January 2008 and to exclude
second hand imports that were registered abroad prior to 2008. The
reason for not applying the new CO2 based system to pre-2008 imports
arose from lengthy discussions on the Bill during its debate in the
Dáil. The main reason for the change arose from an anomaly in the
proposed legislation whereby low CO2 emitting used cars imported after 1
July 2008 would pay a lower rate of tax and would have an advantage over
similarly aged cars bought previously in Ireland.

    Yours sincerely,

But WhYYYYYYYYYYYY. He has been got to by interested parties. Regardless I emailed my pen friend about how disgusted I was with his boss and will anxiously await his reply hoping he will change his mind! It's like sending messages out into space to beings from another galaxy, but they'd probably reply quicker and make more sense!:D

    Dear JHMEG,

I have been asked by Mr. John Gormley, T.D., Minister for the
Environment, Heritage and Local Government to refer to your recent email
    in connection with motor tax.

I would like to explain that, in the Budget of December 2006, it was
announced to introduce changes to the current vehicle registration tax
(VRT) and motor tax systems to introduce measures to weight VRT and
motor tax in favour of cars with lower emissions. The announcement also
invited public comment on the changes and a public consultation on the
rebalancing of both taxes was held from December 2006 to March 2007.
Advertisements were placed in the daily papers on the 15 December 2006
drawing attention to the rebalancing proposals and their availability on
the Department’s websites and inviting submissions by e-mail or post.
Following examination of the submissions both representatives of this
Department, Department of Finance and the Revenue Commissioners met with
representative organisations and private individuals to discuss their
    submissions in May 2007.

The public consultation process made it clear that the new CO2 based
system would apply from a specified date and that cars registered before
that date would continue to be taxed in future years under the existing
motor tax system related to engine size.

Retrospection prior to 2008 would not be practical as there is no
authenticated CO2 data for the majority of the existing fleet. The CO2
values on the Revenue and NVDF systems, in respect of new cars only,
have not heretofore been used for any business purpose, have not been
collected as the basis for a fiscal charge and, accordingly, have not
been authenticated to any degree. It would be unsound to apply charges
on the basis of such data. If there was an optional "opt in" to the new
system, it would undermine the revenue base of local government,
resulting in serious financial problems for local authorities throughout
the country. The Local Government Fund must have the resources
    necessary to meet demands.

The clear objective of the new motor tax system is to influence the
purchasing decisions of consumers. Purchasers of cars with low CO2
emissions will be rewarded while a premium will be charged on vehicles
    with high CO2 emissions.

The Bill to give effect to the new CO2 based motor tax system passed
its final stage on the 20th March 2008 and amendments have been made to
the Bill to include in the new tax system new cars registered from
January 2008 and to exclude second hand imports that were registered
    abroad prior to 2008.

    Yours sincerely,

    Eddie Kiernan,
    Private Secretary

Nice copy and paste reply but atleast you got one I suppose, pity it didn't mention SIMI lobbying . Could have easily be ruled that if car was imported from EU country and had CO2 data on logbook new system and if not old, simple.
