Want to get a new game for the weekend (wife and kids gone away to her homeplace for long weekend - oh the joys of being married to a culchie from Mayo :D:D)

    I've narrowed it down to
    Turok
    Lost Planet
    Army of Two

    Which one????

BTW My favourite games so far for the PS3 are Call of Duty 4 (naturally), Drakes Fortune and Resistance - not thats theres a huge selection to choose from anyway:rolleyes:

    All three are pretty sh!te!

Why is the choice narrowed down to these? Try UT3 or Rainbow Six Vegas if its FPSs you are after. If you want something different, Ratchet and Clank and Lego Star Wars are immense fun.

If you MUST get one of those three, get Army of Two. Its not meant to be great but much of the criticism is based on hype-not-lived-up-to rather than particular faults with the game itself.

lego star wars is incredibly addictive. if i was to pick one of those three, it'd be army of two, but as stated, there are better games out there

Pardon my ignorance but "lego star wars"? Isn't that for kids??? My nephews and nieces have that for their ps2's.

I've been negelcting the PS3 lately as I've commandeered my kid's Wii to play Resident Evil Umbrella Chronicles. Pure mindless shoot em up but great fun.

I'd heard Turok and Lost Planet weren't great but Gamestop are doing a "trade in 2 games, get one of the above for free" so I was going to get rid of COD3 (bitter disppointment) and a racing game that I've no interest in and get a new game for free to enjoy in the peace and quiet of a wife and kid free zone for the weekend.

Never seen Unreal Tournament in action but I always thought it was an online game. As for Rainbow six, I had the first of these a few years back on the pc and thought it was boring as hell. Maybe things have improved since. I suppose the best course of action would be to rent a few games in xtravision to see if I like them enough to buy them.

Of course, if there are any other suggestions, they are appreciated.

So is Mario. Doesn't stop it being one of the best games of last year!

    Try Metroid

Its not really for free if you have to tyrade in two games... why not get some money off a new release? If you don't have online capabilites, try Guitar Hero 3, excellent fun, even for the sprogs.

Renting is a good option. Vegas is a completely different animal to the previous R6 games, you may be pleasantly surprised...

if COD3 was a disappointment to you, then go for COD4 as you won't find a better game on the PS3 right now and it may make up for some of the disappointment of the last one and if you like that sort of game (as you obviously seem to) it's the obvious first choice IMHO. :)

If you fancy a change then Burnout Paradise is very good too.

Personally, I wouldn't even think about buying a game until I'd seen reviews from metacritic. a lot of the guff you read about games is based on hype, but there are still a few enclaves of honest journalism out there and they will always find a voice on metacritic as their ratings are based on all the reviews they can find of a game/book/movie etc.

Id go for ut3... Its fast paced deathmatch style gaming at its best. It also supports mods, flatwars is awesome, and its online for me has been the best of any ps3 game so far.

out of the list i would pick army of two, but its offline artificial intelligence is a bit poor (constantly dies in what seems to me like easily holdable positions), so unless you know online people who have it and are willing to sit down and game with them, it might not be for you.

There is a new rainbow six out this week as well i believe, I might trade in army of two for it.
