Sorry if im missing it, but i cant see anything in the "ultimate sticky"

Anyway, after doing a couple of jobs for a relation, he has offered to help me out by giving me a couple of hundred pounds for some lighting gear.(obviously im going to have to add to this myself)

The problem is, i am completely at a loss as to what im looking for.
Basically i want a set up that is useable as a portable "studio". Am I looking for flash, contiinous lighting, softboxes umbrellas etc etc etc?

And can anyone point me in the direction of a place where i can get what i need as cheap as possible!

    Thanks in advance

if I was starting all over again I'd probably get a 580 and a 430, a reflector and a couple of light stands & shoot-through umbrellas. I've got a good video that deals with lighting with speedlites if you fancy a look. All the guy uses in it is a 580, sometimes a 430 and a reflector or two.

    how would you trigger them?
580 as master or would you consider something like an ST E2? I'm trying to decide if I should get one or try to go for a 430 instead (I have a 580 already).

I'd probably get an ST E2 or some cheap & nasty ebay triggers to start off with. Or a long sync cable and a hotshoe with a PC socket.

Don't know the exact title of the video, but it's all about lighting with Canon flashguns. Techniques and how to reproduce photos like you'd get if you were using proper studio flashes.

If any of ye are interested in seeing it, send me a PM and we'll figure something out.

@Rymus: is this the DVD you were talking about ? Would it be relevant to a kit of 2x430 EX and ST-E2 ??

Eirebear, why don't you rent out a studio for a few hours, see what you use the most in there, and see what you decide after that?

Yes and yes. The guy in it uses an off shoe cord, but if you're using an ST-E2 it'd be no different really from what the guy does in the video..
