    Guys just wanted your opinion

is it worth upgrading a dell inspiron 510m in order to sell it. It currently has 512 mb ram and a 40 gb harddrive. I think it has 1.5 ghz processor. Would i it be worth my while.

    Thanks

My Girlfriend has the same laptop. Strangly only 384Mb Ram in this one though. Im sure some buyer will be out there for it. What price they'll pay ive no idea. I did a complete format of her laptop and it sped it right up.
She only uses it for reports, reading college notes etc so it suits her fine, perhaps others need a laptop for just the same.

Yours would need a bit of ram anyways if you do end up upgrading, perhaps a new hard drive. All in all, it might cos about €100 to glitz it up a bit.

Just priced an inspiron on dell site there:
    Intel® Celeron Processor 540 (1.86Ghz, 533 MHz FSB, 1 MB L2 cache)
    15.4" Wide Screen WXGA (1280 x 800) Display with TrueLife™
    1024MB 667MHz Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM [2x512]
    80GB (5400rpm) SATA Hard Drive

    €479 ex vat.

Thats as close i could get to the 510m. Twice the ram, processors are about as powerful as eachother except the 510m is easier on power (im pretty sure) And the hard drive is twice as big. That said, throw 2 gb of ram, for <€50, into yours and its looking alot better.
Maybe 200 - 300 euro (Edit: Maybe not). Thats just based on this one dell laptop though. Await other opinions id say.

As always, there is a distinct difference between what it's worth, and what you can get. Worth, I'd say Black Knight was fairly accurate, probably about 270 euro.

But, there are people who are totally ignorant of Dell's offers, and constantly pay far more for lesser spec, second hand machines then they would for brand new, superior ones.

Im hopeing to find myself one of these people in the comming months. Wana get a vostro (or something just as good) over the summer and sell my Acer aspire 1690 Pentium M 1.5GHz, 2gb Memory, 60Gb Hard drive and 64mb Gfx card.
Im expecting to get something similar to the price for this 500m, perhaps a bit more, €300 would be nice for a 3year old.
