hold down the release button, turn it all the way locked and then turn the other way. If that doesnt work, take a hammer to the 50 :D

Suppose if you have a handy camera shop around you could pop in there to see if they've any tips.

Is the lens release button pushing all the way in without any additional force required?

This happened to my 50 1.4 a while back... Though someone (me) spilt a pint on part of it.

You didn't spill any liquids or anything sugary on the camera, did you?

You may just have to use a bit of force. Has the camera been left in the cold? Keep it someplace a bit warmer for a while if it has been. Just keep on trying :)

Try rotating in the other way first, then unscrew normally.

I brought it in to canon repair centre, luckly I work fairly near it
They agreed the lens cannot come off the camera

They said <tech word> broke or damaged on lens, and will need to be physically removed .. ie. smashed off.

They do not know whether it will be covered by warrenty (the lens) as if they think the piece broke due to impact they will not cover it .. i.e. if I have damaged it

I'm just releved that the camera itself is not damaged ...

(not until they try to smash the lens off)...

Cock the camera to take a picture then try to remove the lens.

Remove battery, wait a few minutes, replace battery, try to remove lens again.

The exact same thing happened to me after my camera had a fall. 400d and 50 f/1.8 also.

I forced it off in the end, which broke both the camera and the lens. The camera cost around 300 eur to get fixed, and you know what the lens costs. Both were covered on my house insurance.

I dont think you have a better solution than forcing it, and seeing what happens. Esp since you've already shown it to a pro.

    I wish you luck.
