laptop going back in time

    Hi, just wondering if anyone can help with a quick question???
    For the past two evenings when I turn on my laptop the date and time are back in 2006 and I have to change this back in order for it to work......
    What the hell???

    It could be the cmos battery is dead or dying.

    If your not affay with opening up systems then bring it into someone who will replace it for you.
    PC's are generally fairly straight forward to replace the battery in but the laptops need a bit more dissassembly and can be tougher to get at the battery.

    It's a little battery on the motherboard. It provides power to the cmos when the computer is turned off. The cmos stores information like the time and the date. Try leaving the computer on for about 6 hours (this should give it a good charge) and see if the this does helps. If not you can buy a new one for a few quid. it's can be tricky enough to install a new one on a laptop.

    Thanks for that, think I will take it to someone alright. Only have it a few monthes so its pretty new.....

    How long have you got it exactly?
    This shouldnt be an issue with a relatively new (less than a year) laptop.
    Have you ran an antivirus scan...

    Sorry, haven't been on for a while. Just bought it in November/December. Have not had a chance to take it to someone, but its still happening everytime I turn it on.......I have ran a scan and everything seems to be ok
