6 months ago i got offered a 6 month probationry contract as you do in most finiancial institutions. after 6 months instead of being made permanent my boss said my supervisor wasn't completely satisfied with how the probationry period had gone and proposed another 3 months probation.

i said fine as i agreed that the probation hadn't gone as well as it could have. he said he knows im a good worker and believed that there was two sides to the story between me and my supervisor and thats why hes giving me another 3 months to prove myself. i am no longer under the old supervisor so the 3 months has been like a fresh start.

at the moment im not permenent and i haven't been asked to sign the 3 month contract so basically they could tell me to get lost in the morning and that would be it.

what i was thinking was putting the gun to my bosses head so to speak. tell him i got worried about being let go so i looked for another job and found one so unless he makes me permanent i'm gone.

i have a feeling he will make me permanent if i do this as he likes me, i've been doing good work lately, hes even given me loads more responsibility lately and a girl is leaving soon and he said i will be taking over even more responsibility from her.

he wouldnt be piling on all this responsibility if he didnt think things had improved as its sensitive information being delt with

    what should i do?

    wait out the 3 months

    or

bluff him in to making me permanent. (I quite like this option...dont know why:D)

No shortage of people looking for jobs in financial institutions.
If you ask, I'd say you'll let be go for sure.

Very few people fail to make it off probation and you don't seem too worried about it. I'd be gutted if I didn't get off 6 month probation, it's a clear vote of no confidence in you.
You do realise companies have a massive turnover of juniour staff, loads leave after 1 year to go travelling or more money. I'm sure you've seen this already.
So with a massive turnover, why aren't you more worried what's wrong with your performance?

Yep, I'd say you'd be shown the door, there's 30 plus agencies who can advertise your job to new recruits.
Keep your head down and work hard and get off probation.

if your in a large company its unlikely that it has anything to do with your boss.
HR implement these probationary contracts and only they can circumenvent them.

you should ask for a copy of the contract and hint at confirmation of being made permanent, even ask if there is a chance to bring it forward, but i wouldnt put your boss in an awkward position with HR - they may advise him to let you go

mate, if i was you i would just be thankful that you still have a job and be happy with that. i dont think you are in ANY position to be putting guns to anyones head. by the sounds of things you are actually lucky you were even given the oppurtunity to stay for another 3 months. i would thank my lucky stars, put my head down, and work my ass off. you certainly arent in any position to be calling the shots.

tbh i am actually baffled as to why you think you could pull this off? you have basically been told that you have not performed up to the standard the company expect from their employees but that they are willing to give you a second chance to try and resolve this. in that situation most people would knuckle down and try to prove them wrong by working their hardest and getting that full time position. instead you have come up with some idea about manipulting your boss into making you permanent. its bizarre.

sorry,i know i am going to sound like a teacher saying this but i will anway, if you had put more effort into doing you job correctly in the first place and spent less time coming up with ridiculous ideas like this, you probably wouldnt be in this situtaion now.

and being friendly with your boss and you boss thinking you are a good employee are 2 completley differnt things. i have worked with lots of people who are 'dead sound', but i wouldnt employ them if they paid me. just because yourself and your boss get on well on a personal basis has no reflection on your work. just like you could have a boss that hates you but thinks your work is great. friendship doesnt come into busines i am afraid.

sorry to burst you bubble but try doing some work instead.
