I'd feel sick if I'd paid for photoshop;)

Out of interest how much does it cost?

God knows when I'll get to play with it. most of the kitesurfers are off to Sligo for the weekend and i get to hang around here "being flexible as per the latest agreement"

Adobe flung it at registered Photoshop Elements users for half price so I coughed up 430E or something for it. I resolutely wasn't paying 850E for it.

I have the 17-85mm IS with it - it's a much more solid feeling lens than I expected. I'll be interested to see what sort of photographs it takes.

Once you start using all the new gear and getting images you're happy with you wont even notice the spend!

I don't want discussion of 'any other routes' here, thank you please :)

Speaking of software, I must get myself a licence for LightRoom.
I let the trial copy expire & I haven't really needed it, but Paulw said that it's good for creating Flash galleries online.
Anyone know how much it is?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,620 ✭✭✭Roen

*EDIT* €301 plus odds, €250 ish excl VAT.

    I feel your pain,
dropped a grand or so on a lighting rig on thursday and decided while very very hungover to drop in Gunns and drop another 550 on lenses without planning to!?
O well, least i realised why women go shopping(cuz you feel so much better afterwards :D )

Ah the joys of spending money. I too have spent a fair bit in the last month, new car, 300mm f/2.8 and Macbook air. No guilt though just a shopping list of more stuff I want.

it's been an expensive year so far alright...

now all you need for your spanking new 40D is a bloody waterproof housing! Or at least a big ziploc bag

Know thec feeling, I sepnt 5k in the last month or two ...

AFAIK You can get the Adobe Design Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Dreamweaver & Flash) for sub $600 if your a student ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,219 ✭✭✭Calina

Big Ziplock bag for the time being rymus. But the casing will be bought for the 350D unless it dies in short order.

    Pity I'm not a student.

Do you know where they're likely to be, in other words is there a competition or will they just follow the wind and surf around?

I'm in Sligo and I'd love to go and have a look. Unless the light improves pretty dramatically around here my old 70-300 f4.5-5.6 won't have much of a look-in, but I'd give it a go!

    Thanks:)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,219 ✭✭✭Calina

No competition planned, no, and it's wind dependent. I might have a better idea tomorrow though if you can hang on till then.

This thread has cheered me up no end. :)

Now I don't feel so bad about buying another camera bag (the one I should have got instead of the one I did in Jan!)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 617 ✭✭✭sasar

    Yep, expensive for me too...
    70-200 L 2.8 lens, backpack, monopod, 2 filters & macro extension tubes

My wife is filing for divorce...

    Thanks Calina,

I'm working this weekend (on call so should be able to sneak away for a while). It would be great if you can point me in the right direction.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,219 ✭✭✭Calina

I'm on call too which is why I'm in Dublin and not on my way to Sligo with my new camera.

    2328933861_46d9bfca01.jpg

I have updated (apparently) PS CS3 and it still doesn't like the RAW files off my new camera. :pac::pac::pac::pac::pac::pac::pac::pac::pac: more manuals to be read I suppose.

This is of a candle in a jar because it was the only thing I had to hand given the yukky weather outside. It's the 13th photo I've taken with the camera. I'm deleting the others.

I quite like it in a large poster kind of a way. If I wasn't afraid of emptying my ink cartridges I'd print it to see what it was like.

calina, where did you get it from? could you take a picture with just dim light?
    thanks :)

Read the charter before mentioning pirate software please.

The photograph was taken without flash at ISO250, I think the aperture was 5.6 and the only ambient light was from 1) this candle 2) another candle about 120cm away and streetlighting coming through a window about 2.5m away. Shutter speed was 1/30 I think. Lens was the 17-85 kit IS. I think the IS may have been switched on, now that it occurs to me.

I bought the camera in bricks and mortar in Swords because I was feeling sorry for myself (did you see the weather) I mean I just wanted it. I had planned to order it from dabs initially.
