    How long should you expect them to last;
I have a 19 yeat old tumble dryer, have stripped it down a few times to remove fluff and replaced the drive belt a couple of times, it's still going strong. (future antique ;) )

I think you might win there Dolanbaker!

I have a dishwasher about 8 years old, that was stored in a garden (uncovered ) for about 6 months, then a warehouse for about a year. It still works great.

Its a Whirlpool, cheapest on the market at the time.

    (I've poxed it now, haven't I....)

I've got a Miele microwave (wedding present) that's nearly 24 years old, and a German chainstore (Karstadt) own-brand freezer that's coming up for 28 years, both with no repairs so far. The microwave is even on it's first bulb! Beat that :)

i'd suggest replacing the microwave as over that length of time the door seals will have degraded sufficiently to allow the microwaves to leak into your kitchen!

    Alun's in the lead!

Edit: Did they have microwaves 24 years ago...? Hmmm...

There aren't actually any seals (if by that, you mean rubber seals) on the door at all, and never have been.

They most certainly did! It cost a fortune back then, but it's built like a brick ****house and weighs a ton.

My mother has had her cooker for 33 years this June! It's an electric cooker and she has replaced two of the rings during that year but two rings, the grill and oven are all original. The brand is ESB...I don't know if that's the Irish ESB or some now defunct brand.

propaganda -buy our goods -if you look at thier ise site or organiseation it says thier own brand washing machines have long gaurantees ,underwritten by axa -thats the same as buying an extended warrenty here thru aig -

while there report contains fact it is not telling the whole picture they just use part of the facts to paint a different picture to suit there own needs

they say in the report that the big companies just badge up machines to suit there needs -thats exactly what the authors have done with there own brand machines

You're probably right to an extent. Their ISE brand were apparently made by Beko/Arcelik in Turkey. Not sure where their new models are made.

That said, it's startling the amount of machines around 4-6 years old that get thrown out. I don't see many Miele being dumped, but then, not very many can afford or buy Miele.

i see more and more people going for miele now ,these are people that went thru hotpoint and the likes ,2 or 3 machines in 5 years ,-the more the miele brand grows here or the more units sold ,they might come down in price

As "luck" would have it, the thermostat went in this freezer the other day, just before we were due to go on holiday for 2 weeks! Luckily a replacement thermostat (of exactly the same make and model as the original!) was readily available on eBay, and it's now on its way to its next 28 years !!!

My parents bought a second hand fridge when they got married and it was 4 or 5 years old at the time. 31 years married and the fridge is still going strong. The chest freezer must be at least 25 years old as well if not older.

And slightly off topic but I was given a Philips hairdryer on my 9th birthday.. i had to replace it two weeks ago (it still works but only when it feels like it!) and I'll be 31 this year!:pac:
