Hi, I want to start the Bsc Psychology in October I will only be completing Level 2 and Level 3 modules. Is there anyone out there who completed this course, how long did it take you to complete? Which modules did you study together at the one time? I am trying to get it finished as soon as possible but I want to see which modules I should complete before other modules and which ones I could do together? Are the residential schools that are necessary for two of the modules in the UK or can it be done in Ireland?

Hi Ya! I havent finished my Bsc in psych with the OU but I can tell you what I and others are doing. I am taking my degree over 4 years because of work commitments but you could do it in less time. Basically you need 360 credits for a hons degree. I am presumming you have a credit transfer of 75 as you are not doing a level 1. Level 2 max is 165 credits. What I did was for year 1,DSE (60c) and DXR(15c); the psy research project which can either be residential only run in the UK or an online project.Year 2, I did ED209(60c) and SD226 (30c). For year 3 + 4 I am taking one module a year from level 3. I have chosen this because I want to get my degree classification above a 2.1 and level 3 modules have a greater role than level 2 in this calculation with the OU. However if you do not have work commitments then you could do it in 3 years. I know people who are undertaking two level 3 modules together. If you have a primary degree in another area you could do a post grad diploma in 2 years, but check with PSI for clarification on that. Hope this helps :)

Hi Seventhwave, thanks that is very helpful. Did you go to a residential school for DXR(15c) or did you take it online? Which do you think is best? Also do you have to go to the UK to sit exams or can this be done in IRL?

Hi there, while some of this might not apply to you steedman as I started the DSE in feb and the residential schools were in the summer for 1 week. It meant writing up the research report amid assignments for DSE. It is easily do able it just means post poning summer hols however this might not apply to u. The residential is more expensive than the online version but its over a shoter period. I found at the school things came together and I realy enjoyed it. From feedback from others who did the online (and most people from ireland took this option) felt it dragged on a bit and they had no proper time off between their next module. It boils down to fiancial and time factors but I would recommend the residential school. The exams are held in Ireland in Cork, Dublin and elsewhere. I am realy enjoying it and the OU resources are brilliant. Best of luck with it

    Hi Steedman

I completed the BSc with OU in 2006. I got 120 points of credit transfer for a previous degree. You can only get credit transfer for a recognized 3rd level course, you will need transcripts etc. A BSc in Psychology alone does not qualify you for anything much so you might think about postgrad study. Most postgrad courses look for at least a 2.1. This means that you have to score over 70% in most assignments and exams. The point I want to make is that the final classification of your degree is more important than the time it takes to do it and it would be a waste of time coming out with a 3rd class or even 2.2 clasification because you would not be able to do postgrad study. I would advise one module per year which will require about 7 assignments and one exam. Dont put yourself under too much pressure.
