Its been a time for me since Mrs. Rooneys Irish lessons but after reading this

    http://www.tg4.ie/soisc.htm

i believe theres a competition with the theme Ireland of today - 21 years old

prizes are 2 cameras in Galway and 2 in Dublin
(i think on the ad on the telly they mentioned Nikon)

and a 1200 euro voucher for bermingham cameras

you have to enter before St Patricks day

you can enter 3 photos by email to ssceal@tg4.ie

    or post a disc/prints to

    COMÓRTAS GRIANGHRAFADÓIREACHTA
LOOPLINE FILM, 9 LAD LANE, BAC 2

and you wont get your originals back after the competition

anyone want to clarify/correct any of this, especially the wording of the theme

Well worth an entry i guess

    Broad = scope for interpetation

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 669 ✭✭✭fguihen

broad and plenty of scope, but i still dont have any ideas. il have to read that book on getting an eye for creatiave shots.

Ireland in the 21st centuary??, immigrants, traffic jams, the M50, new buildings, bridges, no-whites shops on parnell street, multi culturism, same old same old, cocaine, teenage pregnancy, homelessness, house repossession, ohh and the mighty CELTIC TIGER (meow), nearly anything taken in Ireland no matter what will qualify, so probably just pic out your best pic.

Thanks for the heads up! I'll dig through my collection and see if I can find something to enter...

I think the Baz will have difficulty limiting his submission to only 3 photos given the number of photos he has that fit this caption

Funny i was rooting around for something to enter , and found loads of stuff from the summer , that i didn't like then and never posted , but look good to my tired eyes now -- so i probably have no chance now :)

i recon baz or sasr to win, 2 different styles, 2 great photographers, both capture 21st centuary ireland in 2 different ways, may the best man win. but i'll have a go, even if we/i dont win the pics may be liked for a totally different subject/program in the future, so all get in there!!

TheBaz - I really like your work but if I were to guess what kind of photo the judges are looking for I would think it would be a "happy" photo - the deprivation that you so eloquently demonstrate might not go down so well for TG4's purposes (just my opinion I could be totally wrong).

Maybe you can submit something less "gloomy" about 21st century Ireland?

The deadline is tomorrow for anyone still interested in entering.I went with the growth of sport in Ireland,21st century architecture and urban sprawl into the countryside.I didn't have many shots that fit the description as you can see,so I messed around with the titles on some of my favourite photos :p

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,110 ✭✭✭Thirdfox

I had cultural integration x2 (one of Muslim/Catholic community and another of Chinese/Irish community) and another of the juxtaposition of old and new in Dublin.

Didn't write my submission as Gaelige though :p

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39,900 ✭✭✭✭Mellor

I had a nice idea, but i never got a chance to do it.
Wanted three images of three different things that were each composed similar, was going to do rugby posts (sport), the spire shot in a way so that it was beside a lampost to look like rugby posts, and then cranes or flag poles to look the same, and the three best were in

Whenever competitions like this come around, I end up scouring my Flickr account, and realising what a dull and unsaturated eye I have...

Ho Hum. Threw three in anyways.

Nice idea Mellor,it's a shame you didn't get around to it.I was thinking of submitting mine "sa Gaeilge" for extra credit ;) but once I got to "21st century architecture" I just gave up

I find it interesting too that certain images such as your first one Baz will get so little attention on flickr. I often look at some of my images and think, Yeah thats great! but when put it on flickr it barely gets 5 views.. For a while I used to equate this to how good/bad the image was....Now I just go with my own judgement but thats also something that has to be learned..
Congrats again.. Great prize... Kid in a sweet shop time for you shopping..

thanks -- i'll keep doing what i do , with my feet firmly on the ground --

Here is the image that I took which came 2nd.

Confession time ................... I am pretty damn new to photography and I have not gone terribly far along the learning curve.

For me the thought of an exibition is like a booby prize.  I mean ....... how the hell am I going to find any of my images that are worthy of displaying?? (This is not me being coy or modest! I know where my limitations are!)

Baz - I have lone enjoyed looking at your work and I am delighted for you and your win. I am sure that we will meet soon at this exibition. I am equally sure you will have your new shiny camera with you .......... dont you all agree that there should have been a nice camera for second place too????

Yes -I am suffering from a condition known as "Camera envy"!!! :D

Barry - I love that mother provides one - such contrast.
Tara - it's a beautiful shot. Very atmospheric. Well done

Its from Berminghams so would imagine its a Nikon how cool would it be if it were vouchers!

    Nice Capture.

And Tara that is an amazing Pic it looks like one of those peaceful paintings by Constable and then with the Bridge its stunning.

(Dont want to appear to be suggesting its better than Baz's picture but I like it more)
