Ok, for those of us with really long hair, can anyone volunteer the best kind of rollers, heated or otherwise, to produce this result:

Please, no curling tongs or GHD curl references, they just fall out of long hair.

Can you get this effect at home with what is in the shops? Suggestions welcome!;)

Really, no suggestions at all? Anyone?

    Evildna.

You really need to put a lot of product into long hair to keep the curls in. I don't think any particular roller is going to be any different.

What I would do would be to get some that you can sleep in. Put them in with lots of mousse and in the morning take them out and roll them.

My hair never really takes a curl but the only time it worked what when I did this, but I did it with rags rather than rollers. I only did it once though because it was uncomfortable to sleep in.

You could try Babyliss Thermo Ceramic heated rollers.

Thank you both. Das kitty, I have yet to find rollers that I can sleep in, any recommendations?

I've never been able to sleep with them in either.

Ah, the joys of Irish dancing before the wigs came in. The foam rollers are the best ones, mine were fairly average sized, bit of spray over them when you're done and you get a shiny ringlety result, they fall down quickly to a normal length, but don't fall out. You can mess with them to get away from the Shirley Temple look though. They're not comfy to sleep in, but they're not too bad. You get used to it very fast. They come in different sizes- that photo looks like you'd need fairly thin ones.

Velcro rollers are the best but will probaly give a slightly larger curl. Trick is to use a setting lotion - I like L'oreal TechniArt Pli, and lots of strong hold hairspray. Pop the rollers in dry hair, spray on Pli, Run your hairdryer over it for a while to seal the product in with heat and then fix it with the hairspray. To be honest my long hair never lasts the whole night and this all takes me ages so I wouldn't so it that often but i love it when I have the time!!

Alternatively, you could get a soft wave perm (Honestly not like the 80's ones) They are becoming really popular, can be temporary (6-8 weeks) and look great. Only downside is that your hair needs to be in great condition to start with.

    Hope this helps!

Thank you cunning-doll and Corruptedmorals, both very helpful posts! I am surprised to learn that a soft-wave perm is temporary, does it really last only 6-8 weeks? Does your hair return to anything like it's original condition afterwards?

    I might be hoping for a miracle:D

I got a wave in my hair about 6 years ago and whilst it did fall out to an extent, it had a kink in it until it grew out. The condition wasn't too bad although I do think that the few curly hairs I have now weren't there before the wave! I have to pluck the buggers out. They could have always been there though. :)

I'd recommend a consultation before you get a perm done and they would be able to tell you for definite how long it would last. There are also perm neutralisers so if you don't like it I think it can be reversed - maybe check this one I'm not 100% sure!). In terms of damage, it would be no worse than if you blow dry your hair very regularly, you can get lots of great products that will help repair it though!
