I am thinking about buying a new Plasma HDTV at my local electrical shop I have my eye on a Panasonic Plasma 42'' HDTV but I can get a Philips Plasma cheaper. So my question is which of these brands in more reliable? will a Philips HDTV last longer than a Panasonic HDTV?

IMO its not a case of which will last longer, its about the quality of the TV.
I would rate LG/Philips at the bottom of the pile of Plasma TV makers with Panasonic 2nd only to the outstanding Pioneer Kuro TVs.
Panasonic TVs have excellent build quality and relaibility, Philips have reputation of having issues with their TVs.
If the Panasonic is PV or PY70 I would definately recommend wither. Myself and many others here have these sets and not a bad word to say about them.

Picture quality wise , Panasonic , no doubt about it , I dont rate philips at all. Its a false economy to go for the cheaper one of the two , always pick the one with the better picture , you have to look at it for years , go for the Panasonic.
